With these and the BLMA gons, what a great time to be an N scaler!

Why are the tracks the door runs on longer on the bottom than on top of the model?

Firestorm acoming...?
Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

The door is a seprate piece on from the body. They are not openable but removable. There are at least 4 door variations if I remember.

Are they a thin casting they can be placed in a non-operating but open position? Is the door opening solid and will need to be cut out?

I hope they make it to MBK this week.

Kiz,

Looks like they originally came that way:

Look at the original door design, looks like they worked like that. The later Youngstown doors needed longer tracks.

Depends on the door, or more importantly, where the top door hangers are.  The further they are form the edge of the door, the shorter the top track needs to be.

Well, that's a relief. Not that I was going to get any. I just remembered about an exactrails(?) boxcar that had the wrong tracks some months ago.

If you look at the photo Dave posted (which is the photo on the FVM flier) the top right-most hanger is set several feet to the left of the bottom right-most, necessitating the longer bottom track.

I think that was True Line Trains or some darned thing.

When should we expect them at MBK?  Anyone in the know?

FYI - I've seen a photo of one of the Prototype N Scale Models limited run Wagontops with the Youngstown doors, and the door tracks are properly extended.

For a bit of comparison, here's the old Precision N Scale resin car:

One thing I like about the resin car is how they captured the oil-canning of the sheet metal.  I'll probably sell of a few of my lesser pieces of rolling stock to make room for a couple of these on the roster.  Looks really nice.

Nice corrosion job on the FNS car Lee.  The first of the billboard schemes started appearing by 1956, so sadly I cannot justify one with a similar appearance.
