Please Summarize: Log On and PM Issues
« on: August 13, 2011, 04:24:20 PM »
OK, I see there's several lengthy threads on some of this but could someone please summarize it all briefly here? I know this adds one more post..........

1) I now have to log on every time I visit Raiwire?

2) Personal messages have disappeared from my inbox and outbox?

3) I am "forbidden" from trying to send new private messages to anyone?

Gary H., if you see this, I got your recent message, tried to reply, now your original message is gone (as is my reply), I am "forbidden" from sending you a new message and, incidentally, an email I tried to send you came back as undeliverable too!

Hi Russ,

I can't help you with the log-in issue, since I luckily didn't experience that problem; but I gather it was a transition issue.  Maybe if you clear your browser cache and cookies now it will resolve itself(?)

The PM system had a new quota installed: 30 messages.  If you exceed that you can't receive any, and perhaps not send any.   Also, it seems there was a period of a week or so that was lost in the transition; any changes in that time were erased.

I changed my profile to allow people to email me directly from Railwire.  Click the envelope icon on the left, or change my old address from ()@nasa.gov to ()@gmail.com.

I look forward to hearing from you.   :)

-Gary

Edit - just got your email...

Gary raises a point that may have gotten lost in the noise with respect to the Railwire's Private Messaging system. Hopefully some additional awareness of it will help smooth things out for folks trying to use it.

Please note: the system now has a limit of 30 saved messages. This is a reduction from the prior limit; consequently, many members' mailboxes exceeded the limit.

Also note: the transition to the new host involved a snapshot of the system taken at about the same time as the new quota was announced. If you'd cleaned out your mailbox after the announcement, it's probably full again with everything you'd deleted.

And finally: messages received after the snapshot was taken will have been lost. If it seems as though you're missing messages, it's not your imagination.

So, if you haven't checked your mailbox since the transition, it's a good idea to do so now, and clean it out so you can receive new messages.

I'm looking to change the quota back up to what it was before the switch.
