Dave V. , followed by Pete N. then Lee W. & Son .

It is almost like seeing The Railwire in print . Thanks to all 3 for taking so much time to make this issue a triple treat .

I'm still waiting for my author's copy, but I can't wait to see Lee's two articles and Pete's article too.

We've had that discussion regarding a Railwire influence on one of the two magazines, but there is so much more untapped talent in this forum who have yet to publish.

C'mon, guys!  It's easy!

I know with me I have learned so much from the great modeling on this forum! I'm happy I took my time and didn't just jump in I researched the scenery techniques used by Dave,Lee,Tom,Ed,Jamie,Caleb,Rich Yourstone and the list goes on and on. I have some new scenes done and have pictures to upload this week hopefully someday I can get a cover shot. I look forward to seeing more great modeling on here in the future. It is so much better to see the great modeling than to see threads complaining about everything from the kitchen sink to China! So like Dave just said let the good modeling happen! 8)

It's easy now, but our reward will be when it becomes much more challenging...  Keep pushing the envelope, guys!  ...And thanks for the kind words.

I'm with Dave. And I too haven't received my copy yet.

From what I've seen displayed on the weekly photo threads, there's plenty of unpublished talent out there. Email and CDs (and now memory sticks) make it far easier than in the days of typewriters and 35mm film--hey, there was a time when the pubs wanted 2-1/4" slides! The pubs each have submission guidelines that are not hard to follow. Each pub has different tastes in images and text, and the only way to find those differences is to submit.

Haven't finished the magazine yet but I must say that Dave Vollmer's article is terrific, as is his photography.  Nice job!

Also, congratulations to him on being selected for promotion to LtCol.  I'm a retired AF Maj and can appreciate his accomplishments.  Well done, sir!

Congrats guys.   I know a lot of the members of this forum have been published, and it's a testament to their devotion to and support of this great hobby. (and scale, of course!)

Although I've not been published in any of the national mags, I have written a few for a regional publication and I would love to join the ranks!  Hopefully soon.
NOTE: I'm no longer active on this forum.   If you need to contact me, use the e-mail address (or visit the website link) attached to this username.  Thanks.

I have thought about trying to write for one of the magizines. But 2 things really hold me up. One being I really don't know if what I do is "good enough" to have published, the other issue is my grammer, spelling, and photography skills, all are pretty lacking. I am getting better, but not to Publishible standard yet IMHO.

I can empathize...  I felt the same way until last fall, when the crew here (particularly John) pushed me to submit my little flat car upgrade as an article.  I thought for sure my modeling was way too basic and my pictures sucked, but I sent them to Pam anyway.  I mean, what's the worst that could happen?  She might say "no thanks."

...but she didn't.  Next thing I know we're talking layout feature.  And later this year I plan to develop another photo shoot.  Read the last sentence in the article and you'll figure out what I'm brewing.

I think the magazine isn't about publishing the best modeling and best photography she can find.  The reality is that she probably publishes most of what she gets because the playing field is small, and she has to share it with Kirk over at NSR.  I think Kirk and Pam both are of the mindset, that the magazines serve to showcase what folks are doing in N scale to provide inspiration and assistance.

By the way, I think your work is great!  I'd love to see it in print.

I would match the modeling and photography skills of any of the regular Railwire Weekend Update posters with any of the published authors.

I am amazed at how far forum photography has progressed since the early 2000s. And the topics of threads has similarly advanced into areas I couldn't imagine ten years ago.

I've always considered my model photography as a work in progress. I still study every photo published in the mags and every image on the photo forums. I see things I could not have imagined on my own, and am motivated to try it myself.

And then there's video. . . I've been experimenting with a Nikon D90 but think I can do better with a mid-level digital video camera. And the real artistic shots, due to set-up and later digital enhancement, will be stills for a while yet, although the tools for video are getting down to the consumer level.

I have more time now--finally. But I still have a major reconstruction to begin in my new trainroom with the house on top.

i was actually disappointed that the N Scale COnvention model contest doesn't include a photogoraphy catagory.

i was going to submit a few for giggles.
