This week….

I finished a thing to two…
Below is the 3rd and last (I ran out of yellow lettering) photo of equipment for the BLSR.

On Saturday mornings, some or our club members gather to work on our club’s NEW Portable layout.  A replacement for the one, we take to shows.   Like Trainfest!

A photo of the MNSE's (Milwaukee N-SouthEastern Ltd.) new portable layout.

It is of the same size and shape, as of the one it replaces.   Our old one, was a veteran of over 15+ years of shows.   Was purchased from us by the current student members of the Milwaukee School of Engineering, (MSOE).
The funds from the sell were poured back into the new portable.   The new layout features more solid construction and as the photos shows.  We are using only Kato trackage this time.   And yesterday was spent laying out that track and tweaking it.  We even got to run some test-trains on it..

went to an Op's clinic by Steve King.  Continued pondering my classification yard dilemma.  Decided on establishing a "western" city (aka passanger destination) on my layout.

Also, continued avoiding installing tortises... lol

looking forward to pics from Ed's outing on Saturday, or at minimum, stories.

Here's some stuff I've done:
A pair of con-cor mustangs

Athearn PS 5344 kit (modeling skills have improved since the last one was a disaster

Intermountain 60' flat with a Roco M60A2

And for the Chessie haters, this cat is slowly being skinned:

The plow and anti-climber will be glued on later after the other pilot details.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Started working on some Proto NdeM projects.  Needed a little color and variety in my life and these south of the boarder railroads offer it up in platefulls.

Kato Atlas RS unit painted in one of the early schemes for NdeM.  I used Pennsy green because it gives a nice warmth to the otherwise cool black colors.  I have an old Rapido S series switcher in the same scheme with lots of stripes all around underway.

This is an MTL 50' undec painted to match a few units I've seen on line.  I used a photo of a model that was weathered being sold on Ebay to get the pattern right.  Decals are from my ALPS.

Again from on of the NdeM yahoo groups I found a shot of a small yard station and modeled it.  Has some work left to do on the roof and side plumbing.

Cheers

No more progress prepping the layout room (garage), but I did get ahead of myself a bit and printed out some full-size templates from the current draft of my track plan and laid them out on some temporary benchwork.  Here's a quick grab shot taken in the poorly lit room:

This will be a ~half-(scale)-mile stretch of tangent track in the central valley town of Edison, just before reaching the foot of the Tehachapi mountains.  The sidings/spurs here serve a variety of food processing industries and will be one of the switching focal points.

While unpacking some hoppers, I came across this Trainman 4750 that Tom worked on for me just before I fled the east coast.  This is an example of his excellent, and simple, surface rust technique that he's discussed elsewhere.

Still some odds & ends to finish up on this car (gluing on the Traincat roof walk, painting the stirrups & couplers, etc.) but it's great to have it out again.

Some great work here this weekend,, and every other weekend!!

I managed to finally nail down a throat design for the south end of the main yard, as you can see in the picture.

The train is sitting on the A/D track,With lead unit just coming onto the main. To handle my train lenght, the A/D track will have to be 11'-6" in the clear in order to handle the 28 car trains and a little extra room,,, not much,,just a little. In the lower corner you see the #7 TO, that leads to a drill track,, as to not hobble the main by switching the yard.

I am going to have 5 yard tracks,, and with the track on the far right being a utility track,, run around,,etc. I had just thought , There is 7 1/2" from the utility track to the edge, maybe I could put a running repair/RIP track(s)...hmmm. Or just maybe I need to chill out on all the track.

Where the SOO is, that is going to be a pocket track,, to hold the switcher out of the way. Inbound and outbound power,, along with cabai.

I plan on having industrial flats behind the yard,, and some will require a move or two.. As I am working on the yard,, it sure does look big. I thought about using a rix overpass to cut the yard in half so the layout can be op'd as a point to point.

Besides all the turnouts,  I also installed the torti required for said TO's ,, also every frog has a feeder dropped. We are supposed to have cooler weather in Texas this weekend, so maybe I will get some more work done.

  Adios for now, WYT

Well, I'm a little late to the party, but better late than never, right?  I've been a bit preoccupied with other considerations (like wiring my house with cat6) but tonight, I buckled down and finished the last bits that needed to be done on the staging yard.  Here it is in all its code 80 glory.

There are 9 tracks with a minimum length of 10'.  This will be a semi-hidden staging yard under the main layout.  I still have to install the return loop at the far end.
