finally some updates . .  with pics:



The local paving contractor began to lay down the final pads around the Exxon North Baton Rouge refinery.  The long skinny white one here will support tank car loading and unloading.  Next week will see an additional pour over the pink excavated area.



The last of the JTT trees purchased from Peach Creek Shops have been installed in Alsen heights.  The one in the back is a generic oak, the three in the front are Scotts pines, which closely match the Souther Yellow and Loblolly pines native to East Baton Rouge Parish.  The road crew has also laid out part of the road into the neighborhood, and the two houses are recent additions from the last Timonium show.

No pics, but I started construction of the loop staging benchwork. Hope to finish that by the weekend,

The previous owners of our house loved yellow paint.  Only one room in the house was another color, and that extended to the basement. This weekend I was able to scrap the loose paint, scrub everything with TSP, and get some primer on the walls and epoxy on the floors.  This is the future home of the Rich Weyand's Pokie, whose benchwork was moved to the garage for a bit.

I can handle yellow over peach, which is what we had to deal with.

Looks like a great start Mike, when can we come over and drink beer?   ;D

Have a late entry this weekend.  I spent the week working on my CN loco, making some good headway on it.

You posted this when you started this project....

If this is your first shot at a project like this? You've done a very impressive job!  Way to go!

I'm finally to the point where I can post pictures! I've been doing alot of scenery work trees, brush dirt ect. I'm currently ready to pour my first river which I hope will go well! I will have some pictures this week. I'm also scratchbuilding a truss bridge.

What paints are you using?  I'm thinking about epoxying the floor to my basement . . .

I used Rustoleum's epoxy system.  The version packaged for basements is a satin finish which is key.  They also have a package of anti-skid additive to add to the mix, which I used and I'm happy with.  It's fine enough to not feel like sandpaper and should be easy to clean still.  I decided not to use the multicolor paint chips that come with the kit since the speckles will just make it harder to find dropped N scale parts.

I'm sure there's others out there, and lashedup uses Florock which also comes in a matte finish.  But Florock is an industrial grade coating and I could pick up the Rustoleum at the local Menards.  

Just make sure you don't use a glossy epoxy, which most systems seem to be!

Mike - What a huge improvement.  Amazing what a few cans of paint will do to even a basement!  Are you thinking about a drop ceiling of some sort as well or is it benchwork time?

Also, thanks to all for the kind words.  Like I said I want to give the loco some weathering, but hopefully I'll have a finished pic by next weekends update.  I'm excited to see it dragging a local down the branch line in just a few days!

Dave, P&LE and B&LE had these Evans-built cars.  I can't find any online pics of the P&LE cars.  Here are some pics of the B&LE cars:

The P&LE cars originally were painted jade green, lettered in the NYC style and sported the cigar band herald.  In later years the cars were repainted black with large P&LE in yellow.

I'm in the same boat, and while prototypical models are not easy to come by for pre-1960, there are some for post-1960.  MTL's riveted mechanical reefer is an FGE prototype.  The Atlas 50' RBL plug door is an FGE prototype.  I think the IMRC wood reefer can pass for a pre-1960 ice FGE car, but every other FGE ice car requires a kitbash.

When I lived in Alexandria, VA the FGE plant was right across the street.  Used to see all king of neat stuff.  They were also making cabooses at the time.  Like an idiot I never thought to photograph this stuff and I did not think it that interesting at the time.
