I figured if the world was going to end, I'd get some time in working on the layout!

Mostly recent work rather than today's progress.

I have been working on the lake scene and added a ME bridge, weathered with Tom Mann's salt technique:

I also reworked part of my yard for the engine shed and a new steel products yard.

More fascia work underway- the glued and screwed joint is curing.  Hope the world is still around tomorrow to see if it holds.

Well we are still waiting for the end of the world up here in Vancouver...another 60 minutes to go!

This week I finished painting and weathering Snowslide Bridge and its abutments

I also added plater cloth, sculptamold and castings to the final 20' of upper decking without scenery.  Next week I have to cast a long retaining wall and begin carving the remaining rock work (the castings will account for about 50% of the exposed rock).

I have been spending way too much money recently. First, I got a few new freight cars. They include a Bowser hopper in CN and all four of Craig's G31's in circle keystone.

Also, in order to round out my non-PRR fleet with other roads popular on The Railwire, I got a trio of these:

Now, close observers of that last photo might be wondering what that thing is that's coupled to the WM boxcar. Well, while I was perusing BLW for the aforementioned freight cars, I ran across one of their many tantalizing listings for something that they've been sold out of for a long time.  I decided that I wanted one anyway, so off to theBay I went. I found exactly one with a reasonable buy it now price, and four days later, it was in my hot little hands:

This is the Sunset Imports DD-1. It's my first brass locomotive, and I love it!

It almost looks quizzical. I made a short video demonstrating its running characteristics.

I have since installed a DZ123, and it's taken a few laps around Altoona. Still some tweaking to do as far as the DCC installation is concerned, but it's just about ready for service.

I've been working on a few projects this week.
-Painting more DPM structures and adding window glass to the buildings
-Adding resistors to FVM wheel sets and painting the wheels. I did 19 tonight as that's all the resistors I could source locally and so far I'm 0 for 19 in getting them to work.  >:( I'll let the silver paint dry over night and see if I can measure resistance across the wheels again tomorrow. If they still don't work I'm going to scrape the resistors off and try a different method for the next ones.
-I weathered a boxcar. Crappy iPhone pic for now because I didn't want to drag out the DSLR tonight.

1967 Ford/ALF short wheelbase pumper
Athearn Cab and chassis, Bachmann pumper body.

The engine is visibly smaller than the Athearn SWB pumper.

Ford L8000 pumper

And I been working on a Linside cement mixer. The kit wasn't pretty, here is the manufacturer photo:

After rebuilding the body and chassis, this is what I have:

There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Nice work Dan.

Got a Chuck-Pak this week with the Walthers Greenville hoppers. Overcast and rainy here most of the weekend, so not good conditions to weather these up, but played around for a body mount solution. MTL 1015s (countersunk screw) into the pre-drilled hole, BLMA 100T trucks and a MTL washer. Can't wait to give them a fade and some grime.... and hopefully Hay Bros rock load soon?

Nice catch on the DD-1, Eric.  That's a pretty handsome boxcar she's totin' there, too.
Scott, the scenery's coming right along.
Daniel, you've really salvaged that cement mixer.  The finished product should be your usual standard.  Nice.
