Posting Pictures?

Are instructions available that details how to add pics in a post? I would appreciate any help.

Photos should be hosted on a third-party image hosting service. There are may of them, and most all of them are free. The most popular are PhotoBucket, ImageShack and Picasa.

First, you need to open an account with the image hosting service. Then you need to follow the instructions to upload your photos to the image host.

Select the photo, and look for instructions/controls to generate a link to the image. In Picasa, it's to the right of the image, and it lets you control the size of the image that gets posted--be sure to check the checkbox next to "Image only (no link)":




Copy the link provided by the image host (highlight the code and press Ctrl+C).

Alternately: In IE you can right-click on an image, select "Properties" (all the way at the bottom) and then highlight and copy the address/URL. (In Chrome, just right-click and select "Copy Image URL".) This will capture the address for the image.

Back here in Railwire, click the Insert Photo button (second row, third button from the left):



It will create two small blocks of code necessary to display the image, and your cursor should be conveniently located between them:



Paste the link you copied from the image host in between the two blocks of code in the post (press Ctrl+V). It'll look something like this:



Your image will now appear within the post.

Yes, it does (~800 px wide). But it just resizes it dimensionally; it doesn't resample the image, so huge images will take a while to download.

Once you do it a few times you will get the hang of it, as its quite easy. The process is actually pretty much the standard in forums that uses BBCode, which is about 95% of the forum softwares out there.

Totally agree. The steepest part of the learning curve is uploading the pics, and most of the image hosting sites do a good job of hand-holding you through the process. Once you've done it, and located the code to transcribe over to the forum, it becomes second nature after a while.

If you're still interested, stop back and we can step you through it. Again, it all sounds way more complicated than it really is.

You sound like me at first.  Wasn't sure what to do but caught on fast.  After a few posts, it become second nature to post photos here and other sites.

I posted some picts (about 1500x2000) which got posted HUGE.
On other forums they get automatically resized.
Will that happen here when all the kinks are out, or do I need to resize before posting?

I tried resizing (smaller) photos, but now I can't post!
I click "post" and blank white screen appears.

This only happens with posts that include images.
Text-only posts are fine.
And if a picture is worth a thousand words, and if I can't post pictures....

Just curious if, now that the domain swap has happened, will the forum software automatically resize large (1500+) photos to thread width or will I need to resize (to 800x600, say) before posting?
As much as I like my photos HUGE & unavoidable to see, the scrolling left & right is kinda irksome.

Excuse to buy a new monitor. But yes, it should resize it.
