I kinda like the innie better as well. Like I said I will have final measurements next Monday, i m just looking for options just in case.

If I can go with the innie I will, regarless if the straight version does fit.

It'll probably be the only "good looking" "curvy" "embracing" thing you'll have in the house for a while... ;D

OK I'm in the house now and this basement is just odd sized. I can do the layout straight, but it comes to close to a fireplace so I have to do a 90* bend on the right side to swing that last section back and create some room by having the layout as an L

Ian,
Instead of a true 90° bend, can you place the two 45°s together so that they form a broader 90° angle?
Then see if David can re-adjust the track plan to accommodate this configuration?

Thats the plan so it can have a nice curve.

Wouldn't it be valuable to have the ability to flip the direction of the train without having to remove the engines?  To me, running trains the same direction all the time would diminish the layout's roundy-roundy potential.

FWIW, there's a double mainline with two staging yards, so there will be traffic in both directions.

I know....I'm sad...

OK, then, which end (when viewing the original plan from the bottom) needs the 90 degree corner, left or right?

That and I don't run roundy round. The trains run on a schedule so like Dave said the staging yard kicks in. However it has to have some roundy round to it as this layout is for taking to train shows where roundy round is needed to a degree.

Right

Good. That works better than left. It will be easier to design a corner unit that can be left out for shows.

I'm thinking of leaving it in (that's what she said)  for shows t add more interest.

Plus I'm just gonna make you change the plan in a week anyway!

OK, reality check time. In order to make an L-shaped layout using the three existing 80-inch modules, and keep the minimum radius to 32 inches, the corner piece winds up 60 x 60 inches, for a total overall layout size of 220 x 140.

Is this going to fit in your space?
