I just tried to prop up some trees I made yesterday.

Note to self: TREES SUCK!

They are super trees and keep breaking into smaller and smaller pieces. I might just end up paying for trees to finish this layout. Who wants the job?

Put some trees up:

It is hard to keep the "leaves" off the trunks, but it looks like that all get hidden in the shadows.

As I figured, the model trees hide so much backdrop image that, aside from overall brightness, the specifics of the scene aren't much of an issue.

I think there are ways to keep "trunk leaves" to a minimum, but overall it looks good. Maybe more shrubbery and other lower greenery along the foreground will help minimize that.

Here a overall view of the backdrop:

Still want to add more to the left and smaller fill in stuff, but I'd like to keep the center field open.

I hold the trees with tweezers and I only have 6 that are sprung. So 6 trees a day I guess.

Now that is outstanding!  Congrats!

Chris,

I think that looks absolutely fantastic.  Now, a question from us color blind individuals: What product/color static grass and tree foliage are you using?  I like it!

The trees on the right are fantastic, and the color matching is really superb. Chris, you're one talented guy.

Color blind? Lemme guess you can't see greens and blues? I can only imagine what the layout looks like that way.

I used "summer" and "late summer" Silflor grass to match their tufts. Most of the trees are just WS fine foam, the blended colors blended even more with what ever looked good to me. I dunked and flocked, then sprayed hair spray and flocked again. The next day I dunked them again so none of the leaves fell off.

I think it'd look a lot like this:

Dave, can you see any difference between the two photos?

Ed, what did you do, erase the red channel?  My son is color blind and I always wondered how he sees things.
Chris,
Nice scene, the trees/backdrop look great. I'd add some leaf detritus under the trees. I us ground  up and sifted leaves.

Depends .. I am partially color blind .. at least I couldn't pass the little whats the number in the dots tests they give you :(

but I can see green and red pretty well, as long as they aren't lights .

@Ed: Hmm.  Must be worse than I thought, Ed.  I can't even see your photos.   ;D

@Chris: I'm red-green colorblind, which means, thankfully, that I don't see the world in shades of black and white.  But, it has always been the major reason that I procrastinate scenery, painting, and even weathering.  Thanks for the heads-up on your foliage colors.  It looks really good to me, especially the match to your photo backdrop.
