One of my favorite Hiawatha shots...

I would be tempted to take off the rear coupler. I know that it had one, but I don't think it would be missed and would improve the lines.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Keep in mind though John, that's at the beginning of a run.

A little here and there will really bring out the depth in it, and I feel like a light wash will make the details really pop too.

No doubt -- plus there would be soot and stuff along the top also .. some grime around the wheels .. and water stains around the cylinders ... at least a wash of grime ...

The Beavertail brings up the rear of the train
Keith

Thanks for posting the pix. ;D I admit I am 100% ignorant about this train - did the passenger cars really have that much "air" between the body and the rail?

The only proto photo I could find is this, which appears to be at a minimum a subsequent shopping:

I've always thought the later sky tops though were the wildest observation cars ever. 8)

Different car entirely, not a later shopping.  But yes, the prototypes did ride higher over the trucks.  Obviously I haven't measured anything yet, but the home-built Milw cars didn't follow the "standard" P-S/ACF/AAR passenger car profile.  The roof is flatter and the sides are shorter.

I think that car is from the 1937 set.  Here's a 1935 to compare to for the height.

Is that a horn on the back of that car?

Yes. I think that the Minneapolis station was a back-in affair (if not, then a back-out).

Whoa, wild!

It's pretty nice to be able to tailor your equipment to its specific use like that.

You mean there wasn't a significant discount for late delivery...?

If mine is as nice in person as it looks in the photo's, I am thinking about sending FVM an extra $50.

Kschmidt626 - I WILL be counting this weekend to see how many (train sets) do run on the MNSE portable at the Traintime show....

As far as the decoder....
I did get a chance to see the parts sheet that came with the trainset.  (this was last December, and I didnt bring my copier along >:( >:()

The decoder goes into the "Tender", and the whole shebang consists of about a dozen parts/sub-assemblies TOTAL!!!.   Pretty Well Engineeerred, I'd say !!! ;D

Jerry G.

P.S.  I am waiting for the 1939/1942 editions...
