Under Table Switch Machine

I know there are many manufacturers of under table switch machines, but I am wondering if anyone as had success with Atlas #55?
Considering costs, the Atlas 55 is less than a tortoise, but what difference is there in the installation.

Oh, and if anyone has had experience with Atlas' 55, is it possible to use a toggle switch with it ?

Hey Marty.  The Atlas machine is serviceable, but I've found that it's best to make some modifications to make it easier to install and more reliable.

I add a styrene fulcrom to help stiffen the throwing action, and a wood spacer to make it easier to align and install.  I pre-wire it, just as I do a Tortoise, and use the extra terminals to route power to the frog.  Here's the diagram I whipped up to file for the patent... ;D

I like these because of the low profile, since I have my staging yard below decks and need the clearance in some sections.  Aside from the need for a different looking switch on the fascia (I use Tortoises typically) they've worked well for me.
