Matt is working with James Mischke on the B&O project and info on the release really stirred up the B&O Yahoo group today. More posts today alone than in the week past combined. In the information gleamed today, there are at least 9 different schemes that there is photo evidence of the wagontops wearing. Also 5 valid numbers for the C-16 Express in Bando Blue were also pointed out. I expect this should keep the wagontops coming for a while. If anybody has photo evidence of a lettering/paint combination, post it and maybe Matt can add it to the list.

Just bit of continuing information.

For those that wonder about a time frame and range for the wagontops, this was posted on the B&O group...

I have a Chet McCoid photo from Bobs Photo of 380543 in Wartime Kuhler. The
photo was taken in Colton, CA on 1-8-56! The car was reweighed at DU in 7-52.
Apparently the weights had not changed because they were not re-stenciled. The
Wartime Kuhler lettering is heavily weathered, and B&O and the car number have
been re-stenciled, but all of the other lettering is Wartime Kuhler. I plan to
paint a model this way.

Matt mentioned to me that he will be offering the blue express version in a later release.  There will be samples in Hershey if the cars haven't been released by then.

Were there any with Y-town doors before 1950?

They were seen on the New Haven frequently, both in New England and in Maybrook NY, which means they probably were ubiquitous on all of the northeastern roads.

I am pretty sure the conversion to youngstown doors started happening around 48.

I have to wait for the second release.  All of the schemes in the first release are out of my New Haven timeframe (autumn 1956), although I could get one of the 1960s billboard scheme and age it for Conrail service.

I remember seeing those in the MacMillian yard as a kid and asking my dad why they bent the roof......We'll have to aquire a few for "poops and giggles".......
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

These were fairly common boxcars for the B&O and made it all over the country.  Don't know how many would have made it to the Northwest but considering the amount of interchange the B&O had, they did make it there.

Got a question on the blue express car.  I know that the PRR express cars were seen all over the U.S.  Did the B&O express cars do the same?

Exactly what I was thinking; weather a few heavily for 1970s service on the Lehigh Valley.

"Boolya!" Now I can retire my two Resin Cast Wagon Tops made from Camden & Amboy kits many moons ago and lettered with not too correct CDS B&O PS Box Car transfers.Nate Goodman (Nato).
