New diners from IMRC/CSS

InterMountain just announced two new diner bodystyles in the Centrailia Car Shops line.  I don't know what the actual prototype is for each model, but we'll probably know by the end of the month.

I think IM is pushing for my wallet to create their own economic stimulus. Along with the B&O Diners are X-29's in B&O and PRR, and AC-8,10,11, and 12's coming with Tsunami sound next time (I'm a sucker for any steam).

I would have considered the Amtrak diner if it was painted in Phase III.

Someone on the N-ScaleVarnish list has confirmed that the "western diner" is a Southern Pacific prototype.

Eh... more CN. Well, I'd have spent the money on something anyways, might as well be something I don't need but will buy anyways. Only have one Centralia car thus far, but am rather pleased with it (except that it doesn't match the Rapido cars colour, which I assume to be correct).

What I do find very interesting is the the Union Pacific is now an eastern road... guess Kato will abruptly cease with further UP releases.

"Western" Diner is indeed SP.  P-S Plan 7579A delivered to SP in 1949 (Four in Overland gray and one car in armour yellow for City of San Francisco service).  The red/silver *Golden State* cars were plan 7581, different interior arrangement but same exterior window appearance.

It's not that UP itself is an Eastern road, its that the UP cars were more similar to the Eastern diner's window arrangement.  Still a foobie either way, but closer.

The "Eastern" car is NYC.  Plan 7547 delivered 1948.

Well; the NP is a foobie; 456 an 457 do not match the kitchen window layout at all and I suspect the "Lake" series of GN's is also wrong but I can't find a picture of the kitchen side to confirm. The CN is way wrong as well......that said; diners are perhaps the most road specific cars around as they were often modifed by road shops an re-built locally ( changing seat configurations etc...) so I have a lot more "flexibility" in my requirement for total accuracy.... I need a GN BSB dining car for my "Stampeder" consist (and boy, is that a foobie train ! ;D) so I'm in for a GN, maybe a CN and an NP car............Mr. Wallet is crying the blues....Big Sky Blues that is.................... ;)
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Again, the CN cars were just closer to the Western Road version...  At least CCS is doing the correct schemes right off the bat, the foobie schemes are just a bonus for those who don't care.

Thanks for the info on the Eastern diner.  NYC - wish they would do a PC to match the upcoming Kato cars.

I dig the fact that two roadnames I want are coming out, but if these still have the horribly recessed windows that harken the dark ages of N scale like their previous runs...I'll pass.

Yes the Western Diner is an SP I just finished reading the large book Volume 4 in the series on SP Passenger cars published by the SP Historical & Techinical Society, covering diners and food service cars. The Red and Silver scheme car is not Sunset ,but were built for The Golden State Limited Train, and had names originally. Sunset cars were built by Budd, everyone calls any red and silver SP cars with either a daylight red or scarlett red letterboard a Sunset car even if not regularly assigned to that train. The Eastern diner is a puzzle to me not many modern era diners featured platform loading doors at the dining room end. It does look like some coaches that had a full or small kitchen and a mid car dining section inslalled later. Most early wood diners and some early steel cars did have platform doors at both ends, although on some cars they were not functional,or were plated over later to accomidate interrior changes. Lastly the half height windows at the kitchen end of the SP Western cars could also be found on GN cars though number and location differed some. That is why I felt the Con Cor GN car, even with the sides reversed in the molding process made a good SP stand -in.                 Nate Goodman (Nato).

I'm not as picky as you are when it comes to passenger cars... probably due to an exceedingly limited knowledge of them. I just like the look of a passenger train behind a set of zebra striped FP9A/F9B's. A mighty fine sight.

But it does operate all the way out to the west coast...

Unlike you Americans with your Western and Eastern railways, we have true transcontinental railways up here, although they're not quite as heavily trafficed as some of the US cross-country routes. (Well, CP used to be transcontinental within Canada before they divested of their maritime lines, although do they reach the US seaboard now via the former D&H)

I see the NYC X-29's are returning. How cute. Otherwise some good stuff. Might spring for a diner.
