I was only able to salvage about what was needed. I can always buy more.

I leave it up to you, then; most of the switches in the station area might look better with #10s, but that's something best determined by actually placing some switches in position and seeing for yourself. And in the IT area, there are only a few spots were #5s are needed, and most could be swapped out for #7s.

BTW, if you have a paint program that can handle really big files--and also have paper and toner to spare--you can print out a 1:1 image of the IT part of the plan with this:

Brian....now I remember what train you are talking about. For some reason I was thinking Conrail Mail 13, not Amtrak Mail 13.  I think only Mail 12 and Mail 412 carried passengers, which is why they were only on the 1997 Amtrak schedule I found.

Here's the Springfield station area at 1:1, rendered with mostly #7s (red). You may find that #10s might look better; that's entirely up to you and how it looks to your eye.
It includes the diamonds under the interstate bridge; it does not include the Amtrak hidden lines.

I think the 7s will look fine, but I will try some 10's down when I start to put down track. I think that since they are not going to be main line the 7s may do fine.

While at an ops session at John's house (MEC_FAN), Jon Landry (central.vermont) and I noticed what may be a switching issue. The issue is pointed out with the red arrow.



With all those industries to switch, I'm figuring about 10-15 cars for a train. The way it is set up now, do you think there is significant room to pull into that track at Fiberoid and be able to run around your train without cutting it twice so that you can go switch the other industries on the left side of the IT?

Yes, I've been pondering that same thing, and one thought was to extend the runaround at the red arrow to the left and merge it with the short runaround above and to the left. At the same time, I also wondered if it might add some spice to switching ops to force you to cut a train twice. After all, things are not always ideal in the real world.

So, take your pick. It's easy enough to change, and in fact it drops the switch count by two (not that it's a big deal).

I think that may be a good idea. And with the size of the IT, it looks like it may require 2 jobs to work it. With the wye if the two jobs are on the IT at the same time it may reduce bottlenecks or even complete lockdown.
