Conrail - Boston Line

I was able to get an extra day off this week as I had to work a double on Sunday since our overtime budget is currently over. That lead to working on the layout, which lead to finishing the mainline through staging and then running some trains...and then becoming frustrated with finding some areas that had been built somewhat below par. So, that lead to reworking those sections of track, which lead to other sections of track, which lead to another area that I was not happy with being rethought.  Which eventually lead to turnouts being removed, which ended up leading to this... Its a new trackplan.

Eh not really, other than track, which can be reused, Im not that far into the layout that major upgrades would be expensive.

Does this mean that you would be able to recycle your finished scenes or would these areas be unaffected by the revision to the track plan?

There actually where no finished scenes, and what scenery you saw was only on a specific 10' long section.

Does this mean you're modeling the Boston Line now?

Yuppers, a 9 mile section from MP 89 to MP 98

If you really are gonna do this, I should get you in touch with a friend of mine. He has so far been able to answer anything questions I have ever had about the Boston Line. Extremely knowledgeable. I hope you are going to also include Solutia too??

Those are the actual ZTS maps from 1996. The track plan is in my head right now as to how it will be, but it will be in order, and almost 1:1 scale.

It would be nice to see what he has as the B&A is my specialty. I've researched it in bits and pieces over the last decade for CR modeling in the 1990's. I really don't care about anything prior to or after the 1990's as that is what I have collected in personal research and paper over the years. Solutia wasn't created until 1997, so it will not be on this layout in that form, but its predecessor company, Monsanto, will be on here on the Athol Ind track.


Pretty much everything planned to be on the layout is here in PDF's 3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10/11/12

Yes, I'm doing this in Proto:48.


No the modifications will allow me to make some of the changes I wanted such as super elevated curves and extending my min mainline radius from 36" to 42". Plus some large switching areas will be included, which after running on Johns layout Tuesday I found that one of my switching areas which has the mainline on an overhead track really made working that area difficult.

I really like how it took me 3hrs to switch Johns mill Tuesday and I still did not finish...I think that Monsanto would provide that. I also found his way of setting up trains in that XXX train should have 3-5 boxcars 1-5 hoppers, etc way easier than a specific car by car run down switch list.

Ian, glad you had a good time the other night, you'll have to come down again. We'll give you a go at the yard. I like your new idea, Springfield would be cool and all those big buildings you have would go well there. If you want some help with track work I'm off until April!!!
