Glad you like it. It was fun to render. It still needs some tweaking--there are logic flaws in the IT area, but they're minor--just needs a runaround here and there to make up for the fact that things are flipped around and folded back on themselves.

Ian, I really digging Davids plan!!!! I don't suppose theres anyway to cheat and put in the PVRR interchange in there, its such a cool little RR!! I want to build a CF-7.

The previous rendering was almost literally a sketch. I've taken that sketch and run it through AnyRail to verify the track geometry. Very little needed to be adjusted; absolute minimum radius is 11 inches. I also added a couple of runarounds to make life easier in the IT district owing to all of the cutting and pasting.

This AnyRail export shows all of the track sections. A color-coded switch list is included; total trackage is ~390 feet, excluding the staging yard. I deliberately avoided using any curved turnouts owing to Dave Foxx's reported problems; there are a couple of places where they'd improve the track geometry somewhat, but it's not critical by any means.

Dave, once again that looks great! Of course it only needs 5 #10's as I now have a bunch of them pulled up to be used second hand! Thanks again so much, this is going to be fun to build.

I know really, it is a very nice plan and it offers lots of switching and mainline action hotness. I'd love to add the Pioneer Valley, but there is just no way. Having it on the layout sans West Springfield yard I believe would be really odd in terms of flow.

why not replace the 7s with 10s if you have them .. at least on the mainline

All the mains are #7's except for the Amtrak tracks and the wye which is ok. I may see how the IT works with #7's as I have MANY of those already as well.

Ian, if you post an inventory of the switches you've got, I can rework the plan to suit. Much of the IT area will work with either 5s or 7s.

This is what I was able to salvage without damage.

7L -16
7R - 11

If it drasticly changes it I dont mind sticking with #5's as I am sure the #7's could find a good home.

It won't make any drastic changes. Should have the revision up shortly.

Revised plan. Uses the exact number of #7s you have (shown in red). I also tweaked the IT area just a bit more after studying the maps again.

David,

Can AnyRail automatically create a track plan from a scale sketch?  Or are you so familiar with the product that you can create plans easily?

No, AnyRail isn't able to convert an image or scan into a plan; it can, however, import an image over which one can trace a plan. I also know the application well enough that I can generate plans quickly.

Ian - whats the ops concept .. I don't see a yard here .. will all the locals come out of staging, and everything else just be a run through?
