I'm a little concerned how close that divergent track stays to the straight route on the second or nearest TO.

Seems like it should be possible to move that diverging track, if more clearance is needed.

Got my conceptual plan finished.

Andy:

Interesting plan - I like the multi-function staging, and the addition of Teko certainly adds to the operation as you will now be able to run the rock trains.

With the impending white death today, I retreated to the basement and got back to work on my N scale layout, or at least some parts to help it come together. Time to work on things for myself instead of projects for everybody else.

I am custom building these bridges, as well as the truss bridges that used to stand with them. There is a third span to the left of the photo that crosses a road. You can also see where the truss bridge used to be.

Here are some of the parts...

It is based on Micro Engineering bridge trusses, lengthened one panel at a time to match the odd panel sizes on the ends of the prototype bridge. Here is the first of three almost complete. I still need to finish the diagonal bracing. The bridge is compressed about 15% from the original to match the length of my shortened Kato truss bridges. If there were a matching length through truss and girder bridge, I probably would not have gone through all of this.

And a closeup

One down (almost), two more to go. The remaing two need to have one end rounded to match the real bridge.

I put up some front bracing along the wall sections of the layout. Not much else done as I went to perhaps the last ops session on a local layout and then fought a nice sinus cold the rest of the weekend,

Unfortunately not much was completed this week. I had a crazy schedule between Friday/Saturday which caught up with me on Sunday. I worked my "night shift", and volunteered some time for the holiday wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery (only had three hours of sleep Saturday morning then back to working the "shift work" at 6pm Sat, til 2:30am Sunday). Managed to pick up some of the latest Magor trainman releases, and installed three decoders. Then the couch and football secured that nothing else was to be accomplished.

NandW Mark came over for a bit on Saturday to pick up his dead dropped freight cars and BS for a while.

I did some more styrofoam carving last night, but for all the mess I made, it's tough to tell what I did. I think it's finally time to progress down the layout away from the end loop.
I also packed up the onetrak modules to set them up at the B&O Museum on Wednesday for our half a month long "Holiday Festival of Trains" setup.

No pics of any of this though.

Ed,
What's the schedule on that set-up?  If it works right on a Sunday, I might be able to convince the wife to let me haul the toddler up so the wife can get some rest.

I made this:

When did Canadian National announce it was getting back into full scale passenger operations ?

Got my conceptual plan finished.   With removal of existing furniture from the layout room there is now space for a Peninsula.. and another helix.   Details will likely change as I realize what a monster I have created.....   No requirement to tear out anything I have done to date except for some upper deck backdrop sections.

Nice plan. I like the idea of a small [staging] yard at the top of the helix (Septimus).

Pudd: it's actually patterned off photos of an old CP station at McKerrow, 40 miles west of Sudbury on the line to Sault Ste. Marie. The real station has been gone for many years.

Well I'm gald to see the CN using a fine historic pattern for their new stations..LOL

Kinda neat - will have to show this idea to my wife; maybe she could get me to help this year if we made a CPR standard number 3 station.......

We're setting up wednesday, and will be up through the end of the month (I know, consult a doctor...). It'd be awesome if you came by. Shoot me an email or PM with when you think you can make it and I'll work on getting down there then.

Ed

I scratched my head too, wondering how I wound up with such a shallow diverging angle.  I'll see how it works and as Ed suggested, move the diverging track if necessary.
