    • Trying to model the BCR Fort St John BC (again)...while living in Australia (what could possibly go wrong?)

Got my conceptual plan finished.   With removal of existing furniture from the layout room there is now space for a Peninsula.. and another helix.   Details will likely change as I realize what a monster I have created.....   No requirement to tear out anything I have done to date except for some upper deck backdrop sections.

Sure, why not?
Don't take my word for it, but may be an iron curtain would fit better with a loading dock door  :)

I did some virtual modeling by completing a collection of compact track plans for Z scale, using only Micro-Trains roadbed track. Here's a sample--

http://jamesriverbranch.net/plans.htm

Fantastic work David!   You're making me want to go build a Z scale layout!  8)

Right now tho I'm leaning the other way:  I'm toying with maybe building an O Scale (P:48) diorama, something that would fit in maybe 2' x 16'.   Would any of your plans unwind/simplify to a narrow/small shelf style?   (The 2x16 would roughly map to 6"x48" in N.)

Not modeling, but I tested with Amtrak on Friday after driving 11 hours to Illinois.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

That's hawt, Art.  What you have there is something that would cost over $100 as a built up, $50-60 as a kit, and probably around $20 for the astute scratch builder.  Great work.

I've been slapping some scenery around in Thomas...

Before...

and After!

A couple of other shots...

The Thomas Station will be located in the flat spot there between the yard track and the branch.

Finished the second curved turnout this weekend.  I could say I was experimenting with different radius combinations but the reality is I really didn't know what I was doing.   ::)  I'll likely need to do a fair amount of "tuning" once they are powered and trains run over them but they work OK with a single hand pushed car.

Nice job!   My experience is, so long as the 'Flangeways' part of the NMRA gauge will pass smoothly thru the frog areas (both directions & both routes), and as long as the points are smooth & have the right clearances, you likely won't have too much difficulty.  Electrically, cleaning up any solder residue and making sure all PC ties are gapped (I check each one with an ohmmeter before installing) gets you a good part of the way there too.

Not to diminish anyone, but sometimes the talk on the handlaid track lists/forums can really make it sound like rocket science.  Sometimes it's better just to take the plunge.   ;) ;) ;)

I spent this weekend running trains at the South Columbia Baptist Church--MARRS and NVNTrak were set up there for the church's Christmas program.

I'm a little concerned how close that divergent track stays to the straight route on the second or nearest TO.
