Guys,I wouldn't write Athearn off..

Nor would I be mislead by the often tooted "poor economy" excuse since HO sees and has seen new high dollar products on a monthly bases.

What Athearn is guilty of is placing their money in HO since that's the larger market--just like everybody else including Atlas which hasn't release a new N Scale locomotive since the GP15-1.

Many will recall my secondary scale is HO and while helping a friend look up some HO scenery detail parts last night(he placing a rather large order with the not so local hobby shop) I was shock at the very common things available in HO that we lack in  N Scale...

I have no doubts we are overlooked and perhaps ignored.. :(

Ouch.  I think it's a bit too early to write off Athearn.  Their bay window cabooses were stunning.  More likely, we're simply seeing the effects of manufacturing difficulties in China and a really slow economy.  We can only guess how many projects that would be on the market now have been sidelined in the last few years due to those two issues.

Still, one truck due in 8 months is really sad.

My post was very much tongue-in-cheek.   Goes along with the "Atlas is getting out of N-scale" post a while back, which I found ridiculous to put it mildly.

I think Atlas and Athearn are doing some great things for N-scale.   The Athearn LPG cars alone are hands down one of the top ten releases of this decade.  I would love to see them do some UPS drop-side trailers but maybe someday.

Then hopefully it will be the logo of the left - it covers a lot more of us, and just seems more appropriate for the Ford C.

According to the flyer, it's the older logo..

Unfortunately, it's more than the logo, according to the Athearn announcement (http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/112310/04_UPS_Box_Van_112310.pdf)

Since the internet wasn't in public use until what, '74, the truck just don't work for us earlier modelers, In fact the internet on the truck side dates to the mid-80s or later, I think, which limits users even more. Unless Athearn want to provide "brown" to paint out the unusable part.

BTW, UPS doesn't just own the logo and color, they own the rights to their truck design too.

If you can come up with a matching brown, you could just paint over the globe and other stuff. And if the match isn't perfect, a little weathering ought to fix it.

Yea, like I said, match 'brown'... but this could have been avoided. I guess I'll stick to REA.

Unfortunately finding a color match isn't easy , you could go through 5 gallons and still never achieve your goal . As far as weathering , finding a dirty brown UPS truck is about as easy as finding a dirty Board Head truck . If decals were made then a close enough brown would work .

This is the 40 and 50's decade logo

What I would give to have these (and the F89F flats) in N:
http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/112310/05_UPS_Trailers_112310.pdf

I think the printing of the acorn logo in HO is a first.....

Arrowhead Models makes the trailers in N in cast resin. I got them on Ebay for $7 each. You have to glue on the wheels and paint yourself though.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

Yes... I'm in N... Also HO and 1:1

BLMA is doing a F89-J in RTTX,  early 2011 according to the web page.    UPS pups and vans would look great on these.

Sure would like to see Athearn produce some more of the 28' ribbed and smooth side pups with other LTL companies logos as well to put on the flats I've got pre-ordered.

I know, but a F89-J is not a F89-F.....
