Con-Cor coupler freebie. Was it a ploy?

A few weeks back, or maybe it was a few months (it's been that long that I don't remember) Con-Cor was making an offer for a free sample of its new couplers. All you had to do is sign up through their website and give your mailing address. I did, and I'm still waiting for those couplers. The one thing I am getting from Con-Cor is marketing emails which I don't remember signing up for.

Did anyone else sign up for the offer and did you get your couplers?

Never got mine and they know I am writing an article on couplers and trucks. Hm....

I gotta response from them. They say they ran out of couplers and just got a new shipment in.

I asked them why they haven't updated their What's New page since 2006 and they gave me a lame we're understaffed excuse. Whatev.

You actually think that Jim ought to take time away from his golfing to deal with something as trivial as this?

Well Jim does work hard and some really long hours to be honest, and Chris and Victor are the only office staff they have, and they are the only ones with PC knowledge to do that portion as well.  SO needless to say they are really a small operation.

Working harder does not equal working smarter. Consumer approval and consideration, which such outdated content on a poorly designed to begin with website, could have impact in terms of income. You know the old adage "You gotta spend money to make money"? If they don't have enough people on staff with the proper knowledge then hire a contractor, design a website that's easy to maintain, or go back to just print advertising, but don't make customers suffer crappy and questionable business practices.

Point-in-case - If it weren't just the funniest running joke of all times ( ::))... a new consumer might stumble upon the notice of the semi-retirement sale and wonder whether the company's gonna be around soon and whether they should bother to build a relationship with a company that's not going to be around much longer. I mean, come on, retirement and going-out-of-business are synonymous. Isn't a gag like that just kinda like shooting yourself in the foot?
