Work begins on modifying a MP 4-6-2 and a Bachmann big C&O Vandy to a UP 2899 P77 Pacific

UP 2899 looks a lot like this 3114 except for the extra box on the forward side of the tender . Mine will be black .

Man that is a massive kit bash. Pretty soon you will be turning your own boilers.

Thanks to Richie and hill milling machine, I started work on a new SW1500. The modified frames and Atlas parts arrived today and I already have the body done. The chassis is ready and awaiting final tweaking. This will be another Conrail unit, but painted in the standard can opener. I would like to use flexcoil trucks, but have not been able to get ahold of Miniatures by Eric.

Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

With the benchwork and lighting now complete, and last weekend's Trains 2010 and related activities now behind me, I am focused on completing the two electronics projects by year end.

The Ramp Meter destined for the fascia now has lead wires attached:

The wires attached to the LEDs and SPSTs for the Power Management Panel are now labelled and have heat shrink applied:

With that done, I was able to finally install the LEDs and SPST switches into the panel.  The SPST switches have a keyed washer with a tab angling backwards.  I used my soldering iron to make little divits for these on the back of the panel.  They worked well in helping to locate the switches.  The amount of wire coming out of the back of the panel surprised me:

The next step, which I was not looking forward to, was to cut out openings in the fascia for the Ramp Meter and the indicator panels.  I did the cutouts for the panels first because they will be concealed and didn't have to be particularly precise; I then undertook the opening for the Ramp Meter which did need to be exact in order to hold the box in place.  I scored all the lines with a utility knife until I was almost through the masonite, and then used a fine Xacto saw blade to make a clean cut through the other side.  Here are the openings:

Meanwhile, on the equipment front, my model of remote control car RCC 2 has gone to my friend Jeff for painting:

Also my eight Procor rotary gondolas, which now have 1.123 ounce tungsten weights lying in the floors:

Daniel:

May I suggest you try Central Hobbies here in Vancouver?  They brought in a large stock of Eric parts recently and they do worldwide mail order.

The F7 on the right is out of the box while the one on the left had a few minor changes.

Been working on upgrades to a Bachmann crane to model Milwaukee Road's X18:

Rivets shaved, few doors and windows moved/added, misc details, photo etched mesh used for window mullions.  The boom car also held a pair of spare freight car trucks, so I'll get some BLMA versions mounted.  I figure that's the only place anyone will actually notice a back wheel profile.  :)

Finished this background building just in time for the open house. Otherwise, not much accomplished this week.

Building is scratch-bashed from brass leftovers; tanks are from a Z kit, and everything else is scratched from styrene.

Work had me pretty slammed all week, and with a house full of people anticipated for Thanksgiving, I don't expect much progress this week, either.  But I did get out of bed early this morning to whip up my used car dealer's quonset hut.  Maybe some pics for you later...

No modeling for me, but I did spend 5 hours at Dr. Mann's yesterday shooting about 5 mins. of video for part of his next Project.  I also learned first-hand his amazing technique for surface rust, and left with some fantastic parting gifts.

Thanks Tom!  :D

Since the trains have all been packed and we're getting the layout ready to load into the U-Haul, there's nothing new for me.  So here are a few re-runs:

Intermountain PRR boxcar:

Conrail GP38 paint-out w/ scratchbuilt cab signal box:

PRR HH1 at Enola:

That weathered F7 looks great, it really "pops"

my best,
