Smike,
Having spent a good deal of time studying and building bridges for my layout, I have to call this shot on a couple of things.  First, bridge piers would typically located where two bridge spans meet.  You have a single span bridge (which is probably too long based on the depth of the deck girders) and at no point does it rest on the piers.  Odds are you're still working on it, which is fine, except that a single span bridge wouldn't need to have the piers...

I suppose it's possible that there was an original bridge with shorter spans at the same location, given that the abutments are concrete while the piers are stone... but that comes back to the observation that the girders are too shallow to support the bridge over the distance spanned...

Support your thesis! (or your bridge!)

Lee, the new bridge looks really great!  Much more interesting than the previous configuration.

Are you going to try to connect all these layouts together somehow?

The answer is no (most likely). My Dad will get this one once I can clean it up, provide a power supply and some scenery. My Dad is the one who sparked my interest in model trains yet he has never had his own layout. Well, he is 74 now and won't get to build his own due to health reasons. I am hoping to get this up and running before the end of winter so he can go buy some trains and watch them go around.

I have a project that I am starting into that is a little out of the norm for me. One of the gentlemen I work with at the hobbyshop is a circus fan and enough of that rubbed off that I have picked up the entire MTL Red train as it has been released. I've been posting a little about it on the other topic. I'm doing small, one evening projects on it when I am burnt out on other tasks. Tonight I built one of the GHQ skid steers to ride on some additional flat cars for the train.

I printed the decals tonight on the Alps. I still need to add the hydraulic cylinders and the safety bar in the cab. I love these GHQ kits. I also have the forklift in process and am going to get another forklift to kitbash into the airport luggage tractors that are used to move the circus wagons. Then on to some trucks and oddball wagons.

Brian,

That's a great idea and a really nice thing to do for your father.  I just saw the Kidney laying on its side at Ed's last weekend before you picked it up, and, if I remember correctly, he removed the track.  If it helps, I'll be glad to come down on a Saturday or Sunday and help you get the layout up and running again.  We could probably get the track down in an afternoon, if you get the necessary supplies.

Perhaps this is the perfect opportunity for a RW meet.  Maybe the usual crew could get it ready for your dad before Christmas.

Some spring cleaning a few months late ...

I finally stripped any useful electronic stuff off this module I started some 25 years ago or so:

4.5' X 27"
(I immediate went into another long period of no real place to build a layout after getting this "done" - this thing has mostly been in storage all these years)

It was to be part of a larger layout - get this though, there was to be an interchange on this module with a short line that got into town via a tunnel  ::)

I'm finally gonna haul this thing to the dump.

The kidney still had a loop of track. I only removed the stuff from the yard that wasn't fastened down yet.

It's all going to find a home in Canton.

There's a gap in the passing siding where it had been, but that should only be a few minutes with some flex track. Take a look at the photo retrospective to see what used to be in there: http://picasaweb.google.com/ed.kapuscinski/ApartmentLayout

Lol. The funny thing is that that drawing was actually pretty much exactly what I ended up building.
