MTL PS High Side update

Hi guys.  Sitting here watching one of our famous North West storms blow through.  Last week it was 80...today, 40...but I found some test shots on my bench to warm my innards this morning.  We have the first pieces of the lower half of the hopper to play with now. We assembled a bunch with the body mounts molded in and I was very happy and relieved that it ran as advertized.  I have 60 or so more cars to hook it up with during testing, but so far so good.  I'll try and post some shots tomorrow.  We are scheduled to get shots of the upper half first of next week and all the little bits are being heat treated as we speak.  I need to get on the stainless parts asap so I can have some of these together...possibly some shots in Milwaukee in November.  As of now we are on schedule for an early 1st quarter 2011 release...multipule road names and numbers each month.  I hope to fast track these to runner's packs as well, but that will require a bit of salesmanship. ;D

We have finished designs on the next PS Heavyweight (observation car) and suspect that to go into the que any time now...so I am running out of stuff to do (sans the heavyweights...have several of those in development).  Put your thinking caps on, in a few weeks I'd like to get some feed back on new plastic to add to the design schedule.

Cheers

Joe

North American/Thrall/Trinity PD5000 covered hoppers. You know they'll sell Joe. I'll take a Wonderbread runner pack, and whatever other schemes come on them.

Trinity 2 bay covered hopper

Trinity plastics hopper (I know its a long shot since they don't have many colorful schemes)

Liquid CO2 tank

PCF 50' large plug door box. Lord knows Athearn ain't interested.

How about an accurate Berwick box? The Athearn/MDC car is a hot mess.

Comet II commuter cars

19K gallon corn syrup tank (Atlas did the 17K tank, but the 19K has become the standard. I need dozens of Staley cars.

17-20K Acid tank

FGE style smooth side 57' reefer. These were also seen in BNFE/BNSF and UP. Several paint schemes each.

MofW vehicles!

Sounds like great progress on the hopper.

I like Daniel's list.  I'll add the Trinity 82' reefer with the cool icicles around the roofline - the one BLMA and ExactRail didn't do. ;)  The box itself would be dead simple to tool, and the end refrigeration would invoke the same skills you used on the Ortner hopper.  You just have to promise to release at least 12 numbers....

Joe; Can you shed any light on specifics for the Observation car (ie: style; boat tail or flat back etc...) or are these details locked in the MT "cone of silence" ? LOL

Thanks

Joe,

Thank you for the 4427 Hi Side. I've been wanting this grain hopper for quite awhile. I do wish you guys would do more Bulkhead flats with loads. Would be very interesting.

New body styles.
Continue the Heavyweights.
A more accurate C&O wood caboose.

I would love to see these in N scale!  I need a bunch of MDC Flexiflow covered hoppers!  And remember:  Ride height matters!  ;)

How about an accurate Berwick box? The Athearn/MDC car is a hot mess.

That car is a bastard that doesn't represent any known prototype. The only "Berwick" feature is the rivets inside of the end posts of the car where the end is attached to the side. P-S roof (a Berwick car should have an X-panel) and ends, and a side sill that is pretty vague but somewhat reminiscent of a P-S or PCF car.

I'd have to agree with Pud on this one. The iconic Canadian covered hopper before the cylindrical overshadowed it.

I like the slab-side covered hopper idea as well. I also like the idea of a 1960s era medium-to-large capacity tank car and a 1960s era carbon black covered hopper.

BTW, whatever happened to the end-brakewheel SP flat you were considering. We still need finely detailed end brakewheel flats.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
