I got mine today and I don't know if it was mentioned or not but there ARE sunshades included in the box. It will be sunday before I get to run it but visually I am happy with it. up close the white on the handrails is a bit coarse on mine, and some small parts of the stripes a bit thin. But the level of specific detail more then makes up for it. I am happy with mine and will definatly consider more in the future depending on how well it runs.

I would buy some of these if they came in "undecorated".  Does any one know if I just painted over the CN paint would the outline of the prior paint show thru?  I am not interested in trying to take the paint off before I repaint the units.  These that I would repaint are for my private road name.

Intermountain has told me they have NO plans to issue this loco in "undecorated" just like they have never done any "undecorated" before.  I reminded him I just bought a "cab forward" undecorated.

Loco itself looks good but the windshield area needs work.I would probably buy undec units though.

However - as with all of their other units, you should be able to get the shell from them in undecorated form for an extremely reasonable price.  I would call them and ask.

I have asked over the phone for a number of times and a number of years for a 40T-2 shell.  IM will provide one if you purchase a complete unit.  Which is OK, but I just need a shell. Maybe I'm just getting the wrong operator.  If any one knows how to acquire a painted /unpainted SD40T-2 shell please let me know

I saw one of the SD40-2W's at the LHS today and I have to say that they do look pretty darn nice. Visually, I think IM has really done a decent job with this model, though I'm not vouching for accuracy in every detail. One of the guys at the store said that they run about the same as the TM's, so they're not to the level of Kato, but visually very nice.

Sounds like the CSR you're talking to is trying a real hard upsell.

Still no joy at the LHS - was in there last night - they are still "coming soon".

We got a pair in for a customer in my N-trak club Monday. The details are impressive; seprate grabs, conduit on the roof leading to the cab mounted bell, pretty darn good paint. Only one slightly fuzzy spot on the front most seargent stripe on one unit.

If they run as good as my Tunnel motor, they should be fine. I never have understood the bashing of the mech in the Tunnel motors. Other than a loose motor connection to the lightboard when I first got it, this loco has run great. It usually runs as the trailing loco on a consist my son runs at N-trak shows pulling 60 or so cars.

All three of my TM's slow down on curves where Kato SD40/40-2's and Atlas C630's do not.

If they run as good as the TM's, I'll be real happy.  I have 5 TM's and they run great.  No trouble MU'ing them.  They all run at a similar speed.

Got my hands on a pair of these today. Wow. They look good, real good. I can't pick over them like Rob can, but they captured to look of the CN unit really, really well. The bell above the windshield, the class lights, the snow shields, the single rear headlight, the steps, airline piping to the bell along the roof and horn placement (different depending on with or without DB), and alot of separately applied grab irons. I haven't run it yet, and will not until I get home on Monday, but visually, very nice.

But there is no tread on the walkways, which seems like a pretty major omission given the level of detail elsewhere on the model.

I got mine on Saturday. Im has gotten a hell of a lot better IMO. There is no obvious tooling issued like with the cab battery boxes on the SD45-2. The shell feels a lot more sturdy. There is a cab interior of sorts, which in nice. The handrails are a bit thick compaired to IM's previous engines, but are comparable to the Atlas SD60 pr FVM Gevo.

My sample had the high a$$ coupler mentioned previously. There is a very slight bend in the walkway, but nothing to explain why that coupler is so high. At least its an easy fix. The chassis is a joke. Its the SD45-2 that's ground down with a Dremel. Its a total hack job. What irritates me is that they have all this fancy CnC milling machines to make their tooling. They couldn't use it to lob off a millimeter or two from the frame?

I saw a pair run today. I must say they ran butter smooth. I was very impressed with them, as was the guy in our club that bought them from our shop. He, like most of the people on here was a little hesitant but at the club layout today, they ran beautiful. They were quiet, smooth and didn't show a hint of stalling on the N-Trak setup.

The "hand ground" chassis is part of the new IM Quality Improvement Program. Hand built chassis for every shell.

Hopefully they ground the chassis halves before chassis assembly and not after.

Good God IM
