Intermountain SD40-2W this month

So it's listed as being delivered with the October releases, as had been scheduled:

http://www.intermountain-railway.com/newn.html

I'll assume that nobody here has one since there is no post on them yet. I have several on order, and though I'm hoping for the best, I have to admit that I'm not expecting to be blown away. Though of great importance to me given CN is one of my two roads, this release is of great significance to the bulk of N scalers as this is our best shot at road specific SD40-2's... something alot are hoping for and if I read the general pulse of those here, not exactly enthusiastic that it's IM. I'd be very interested in what anyone has to say about these when they see or receive one.

I'm not an expert by any means on the SD40-2W in CN schemes.  But the test shots and painted samples I've seen over the past 18 months to me have looked very nice.

I felt the lettering and striping looked, well, white on the shots I saw online. Maybe it was the image quality, but it looked white and the lettering / striping on CN units since 1960 has always been a shade of gray. Something that TLT gets it, but Atlas and IM don't seem to.

Tried to get one of these last week but they weren't in yet - I'm going to try again this week at the LHS.

I wonder if the shells will eventually be available.  I'd buy a few in UNDEC just to have the cabs for some GP-40W's for KCS . . .

IM never seems to offer the shells separate.

You just have to call them.  They make their plastic parts in house.  If you need any etched metal parts, you may have a harder time.

If that cab is good and it'll fit on an Atlas GP40-2, might be contacting them... need a fleet of GP40-2L's and a few GP40-2W's myself.

I have some resin cabs for my GP40-2W /WLs, which I suspect when done they'll look good with the SDs.

Are they one's you made or the MBE one's?

Neither, they're the ones from Athabasca

Resin, from Athabasca? Did you cast them from the etched ones? I've two of the etched ones, and I recall measuring them against the Atlas frame and found them to be too wide for the GP40-2. Must be based on the Kato SD40-2. If you use them as is, you'll have an overhang on the cabsides.

ah sorry you're right, I'm confused - they must be Kaslo ones, definitely not MBE.

The Kaslo one is designed to fit the Bachmann GP40, IIRC  :P

IM has a FANTASTIC parts department. The people who work there know all the models like the back of their hand. I asked for ACF end parts for a project a few months ago and the guy asked if I wanted the whole 2 or 3 bay detail sprue.

They are the only parts department that returns their calls promply - usially the same day. Best of all the parts are very cheap. That whole sprue included everything but the body and etched walkway was $.95 with $2 shipping. A whole F7 shell with glass (everything but the etched parts) was like $5.
