FVM Gevos - Did I get the Friday afternoon one?

Hi folks,

Finally got my CP Gevo yesterday, and overall I'm really happy with it, the red is good, and the warning decals are somthing that makes this look more real than the Kato one, but there were some issues with it, and I'm wondering if I just got the friday afternoon one or if others have seen the same things?

First off the loco has no lubrication as far as I can see so consequently it sounds like a coffee grinder and doesn't run as smoothly as the mech suggests it should. I'm happy to have to lube the locos myself, but if that's expected out of the box, a note to that effect would be good - but maybe that step was missed at the factory.

There was a hair stuck half in and out of the paint on the GPS dome, which I eventually was able to scrape out and then repaint the dome. Also the dome and the other white piece on the cab roof looked like they'd been removed from the sprue with a set of teeth. Talking of sprue I had to remove some of the sprue joins from the handrails.

I found a piece of wire stuck in the bearing block mount, not touching anything, which I was able to remove luckily as if it had come free it could had gone into the truck mechansim.

Last point is the painting of the handrails which was really sloppy, the black doesn't see to cover the red well, and it's all over the stanchions, I can probably correct this with a bit of touch up paint but it's  a nuisance having to do so.

As I say, I'm not sure if this is just a one off, or whether others have seen the same, in which case I'd be happy to email FVM about it, as it looks like the QC guy at the factory is letting Matt down.

These are the ones being made by monkeys in Mumbai....

They are pretty good with assembly - but they still need training with sprue cutters.   ;D

what do you want for $89.99 ;)

just messing with you. i just looked over my two NS gevos
all's well.  with my only concern being the DCC plug
i pulled out the shorting plug and replaced it with a digitraxs
dz125in.  the prongs on the dz are longer the the stock plug
and the decoder seems to just sit in the 6 holes there is no
lock or clip to hold them in..  seems like motor vibrations
could cause it to come out..

btw, more serious answer here - I had a CPR GEVO, and I didn't see any problems like this at all.  I have heard of some CPR's that have lettering flaking off though.

It sounds like a one off problem to me.

FOD and other objects in the model are a result of Monday Morning products, Friday afternoon products usually are missing nuts, bolts, clips, fasteners, etc...  ;D

Well I'm glad others have had more luck with this loco, I'll get some Labelle oil on it and hopefully it'll run nicely then. To fix the handrails I'll have to run the gauntlet of matching the CP red - never an easy task.

Think my favoite thing about this loco is the simple plug and play decoder.  Wish all manufactures used it.

Lee doesn't want that, Bob! He'll lose money if that were the case!

Tough ;D

Maybe his next article he publishes will be on how to install decoders on older models.
