Weekend Update - 9/26/2010

Good Morning:

I hope no one minds if I start things off this morning as I am off to the Victoria Train Show and have a ferry to catch. 

The twin trailer flat car project has reached the stage where the two assemblies are ready to go together to form a single car:




Unfortunately, the next stage in the assembly will have to wait approximately one month for the arrival of some custom weights which will go between the centre sills.  Until then there are some other parts I can build.

As mentioned, off to the Victoria Train Show, so over to all of you.

I am starting to lay out the container intermodal yard on the M&O

Well, I've been absent for awhile, but I hope to clear up why this week.  Altoona is currently disassembled and awaiting a new home.  About a week and a half ago, my wife and I hired a contractor to turn this:



Into this:



That's about 400 square feet of new space in our house, earmarked for the PRR!  So, that will hopefully soon contain this:



And likely this, although I'm not 100% sold on two levels.

The lower level is on revision 8, and the upper level is revision 2.  I'm planning staging below, but I haven't completely worked out were/how yet.

The last of the 3 UP switchers for now is UP OSL 4703 , though retired in 1947 it is as close as I can get to the bones that is the Arnold Rapido 0-6-0 . I bought it this way .



Now the cosmetic surgery begins .

Well I finally have gotten some modeling done since last Winter and started with making this Walthers built-up Sunrise Feed Mill a little more to my liking.

Dave, who makes the cinder blocks? I know they are Z, but do they do em in N as well?

I didn't get much done this weekend because of some schedule changes.... However I if had not known about these schedule changes at the last mintue....I would have been able go to CRHS Convention 'Ohten because I would have only had to take 1 day off instead of 4.....Yup...woulda been nice....

Anyways, besides not going to go inside Larys Truck like I have always wanted, I wired up some more of my Tam Valley Depot decoders. I found that on 5 o the ones I wired up they do not like the autothrow setting feature. They set way beyond where needed and sit there and hum, so I had to manually set how far they throw. I think it maybe the stronger motors as I got black ones on this order compared to the blue ones in my last order.

Those are made by Robert Ray. They come in his Lew Skroo's Hardware kit. I don't know if anyone makes them in N.

Cool, he does some very nice work. I built one of his B&M wood cabooses that Toxie had him do about 6 years ago.
