it has 1 SD38-2, a bunch of hoppers, has no connection to the outside world and that's about it.

Cumberland Mine Railroad

coal is loaded here:
http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=qmz1fj89kxgg&scene=31990506&lvl=1&sty=b

and is delivered 17 miles later here:
http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=qn4pdg8b5rz0&scene=40135877&lvl=1&sty=b

the line was built for speed - there are no grade crossing - many bridges, and some nice curves.

if a unit coal train is your thing, this is the line for you.

I don't know, how much fun would modeling this be?

That's the major reason I've never really had any interest in modeling the EBT.

diverse operations it's not, but it allows someone with a limited space a prototype to build a coal hauling line with conventional equipment that is on the shelf of any train shop.  you could build a working flood loader and rotary dumper and even do it up as a P87 super detailed awesome layout.

Well, the SD38 isn't an off the shelf item (at least in N), but it is an interesting concept.

So is this a hint that the current WM layout concept is possibly going bye-bye?

i can't make reference to other interesting things?

i drive past this operation frequently and always thought it was neat - it truly is a coal conveyor belt.

it would make an interesting display type layout for a module based group.  i'm trying to find out more about it - seems they have just enough cars to make up 1 train - 31-32 cars long.  they fill it, dump it, run it back, rinse repeat.

IMO, you'd need to be easily amused to build this. I mean, even as a confessed roundy-rounder myself, I'd find this b-o-r-i-n-g.

is it more boring than an HOn3 logger?  it's pure railroading.  load em, move, empty em, run em back.
