Nice work BLMA!

Looks like there is a good 5 years before the sides become a complete canvas for the murals... they seem to take hold in 08/09

If I were to guess, I imagine the economic recession slowed their turns down which kept them sitting in one place for longer.  Normally, reefers don't sit around for long and are kept moving with minimal dwell which makes it difficult to do much graffiti outside of some minor tagging.  I imagine even they were effected at least a little as the market slowed.

There's 1500 of them... so not all are in expedited unit-train service at any time.  I see them in NS manifests all the time around here.

I noticed on the Roanoke traincam that those cars are in locals sometimes - any idea where they go?

Lynchburg, I believe... can't remember... I'll ask.  There's a few transfer runs to Lynchburg (V70/V71 ), Winston-Salem (V74/V75) and Shenandoah (V90/V91)that are treated as locals, but are basically just a manifest.

Rob - not to hijack this thread, but can you confirm for me - on the railcam,

the two tracks immediately in front are the Blue Ridge and Roanoke Districts and the two behind are Winston Salem (or going to South Yard and then WSS?)

This is a fantastic resource - I have the cam, the ATCS display and the railroadradio all running and it's like being there (actually better in some ways).

From the railcam... near track to far track... first two tracks lead to the Roanoke District (former N&W Shenandoah Valley line)... the closest track is solely Roanoke District... i.e, no crossovers, it goes from 4 tracks to three track just west (further away) of the visible signal bridge.  Main 1 of the near two tracks (i.e, the second track inward) has a crossover that goes to main 2 of the Blue Ridge District, and there's a switch to RLS further east of that.  The further away set of tracks lead to the Blue Ridge District... there's another crossover, east of the one just mentioned, that goes from main 2 to main 1... just east of that on Main 1 is the switch for the wye for the Winston-Salem line.

No can do...   Union Pacific (along with pretty much every other company under the sun) will not allow any type of graffiti on their marks per their licensing agreement.  What people do with the cars on their own watch is a completely different story...

Plus, you'd have to get another license from the taggers! ;D

Interesting. I wonder how MTL gets away with it. Joe?
