I didn't see anything in that thread that said they would do a later version w/o the decoder. As Bachman has stated at several shows, the cost to do the loco is the same with or without the dual mode decoder.  I'd be real surprised if the do any new tooling w/o the decoder.

some lagging news ...

According to this, Although no specific details were available at the NTS event, a senior Walthers executive dispelled rumors that the company was softening its support of N scale by confirming to MRH reporter Jeff Shultz that two new N scale locomotives would be announced before the end of the year.

Now, is a senior Walther's executive some old senile guy? :P Does "two new" mean re-releases of Lifelike stuff or  really new?

...Announced and Released are two very different things.  Ask the man who owns an N scale M1a from Broadway Limited...  I expect they will be warmed over Life Likes possibly with DCC friendly drives.

Twould be nice to see the FAs and C424s again. I could use a handful of SP&S. The FAs especially, as I'd need units in both the old and new schemes. I've always wanted a GP/FB/FB/GP/RS mash-up set in the original green and yellow as pictured on page 88 of Austin's SP&S In Color. And the C424s roamed the WP's High Line on occassion.

I'd be willing to bet that every LL/WKW loco coming from now on will be DCC ready, old or new tooling. I expect at least one loco will be new tooling. I also do not expect to see either one for at least a year.

The FAs are the most likely.  I just started stripping and detailing a pair this week.  So I'm sure that'll be the next offering.   ::)

Bachmann already has a shorter (both in height and length) tender that is DCC ready. Not sure what the B'Mann rep was talking about when he told someone at the show that they needed the larger tender for DCC.......

The rather large DCC board they'll probably use maybe? Sound readiness may explain it too.

I had a few FTs that were B-manns and the decoder boards ran the for most of length of the unit. Lee has already noted Bachmanns rather chunky electronics:

...Bachmann electronics are notoriously chunky... The H-16-44 has vacuum tubes and cloth insulated wires...

One question I haven't seen asked is if the decoders in the Bachmann N-scale DCC-equipped locos will be any good. Dunno how the ones Lenz made for atlas N scale locos were, but the ones they made for the B-man HO ones are pretty basic.
Vincent

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

I am guessing that the Low nose GP18 is at the top of the list... the DCC frame is there and the engine has not been run since the mid 1990s. Other ideas: FA1 or FA2 with DCC, a refreshed GP38-2, a refreshed SD9, an SD40-2, or maybe new versions of the C series.

Speaking of decoders, I wonder why manufacturers have not started using the split decoder like the TCS CN series.
http://www.tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Products/Decoders/N-Scale/ClassicN/CN-Series.htm

The decoder could be made with those micro fasteners used with internal laptop antenna wires to connect the motor and light boards. This would allow more room for frames, improving weight and totally eliminating the need for different sized decoders for different length engines.

Still watching for the "new" Wally locos ::)

Supposedley we'll see what Bachmann's idea of new freight car tooling is next month:

This has probably already been covered somewhere but when were these cars introduced and who ran them?

The NSC cars are late 1970s (1979?) build if I understand those links correctly.

CN's 126 ex HLMX cars (CN 383368-383493) all show as BLT 9/79 on the Canadian Freight Cars website. The DWC car, one of two DWC 384700-384701, is likely a former CN car, but can find any evidence either way.

The Dominion Malting cars in series DMLX 10000-10035, show as BLT 4/79-7/80.
