I actually got a chance to work on the layout for the first time in a month. Got some more track down to the approach to Meridith Amtrak station. I need to order some more turnouts in the next week so I can get the main line complete and get the roundy round going. Worked on a smidge of scenery and wired some more BDL168s.

Most of my time, other than switching departments (more money and more "action") has been spent working on the A6. After the trip home from MI 2 weeks ago I began working on it in the yard to prep it for metal work and electrical. I took out all the glass and some of the junk that was in the car. Also cut a board of red oak to replace a rotted cross member on the rear. This week I will be bringing it into the shop so I can start blasting it with Black Beauty to get all the metal down to bare steel. The sides of the cab are all 11ga and in good condition. The front and end sheets are being replaced completely with 16ga steel. The roof is OK for now, but will be replaced over the winter with a "EMD style" cab roof. The floor will be replaced over the next weeks with white pine once blasting is done.

took my Certified Quality Auditor test for American Society for Quality, ref'd soccer in the rain and had a visit from dclyde (Dave Clyde) and his granddaughter for a play date with my daughter.  

The visit was great, and it resulted in not only more inspiration for him (Dave is longing for a second level in his basement empire and in real estate acquisition high level negotiations) but the simple, yet successful programming of a Digitrax DS64 which will drive my grand junction on my 4 track main as he talked me through it and discussed the finer points of routing and best practices (he has a TON of them).  

Crossing over at speed (whilst dodging oncoming traffic) just got harder at Chez' Payne (no more manual cheating).  Should be fun.  The layout now has a second element of qualification to deal with as an operator.

Some very good looking stuff this week.  For my meager contribution, I got another Custom Model Railroads kit put together.  This is the Saint Paul Building.  Here are the assembled modules.



I was having trouble with the color for the brick.  My first attempt was near spot on... if I had been trying to paint the Golden Gate Bridge.  I managed to tone it down to something a little less... neon.

The Saint Paul building is based on the old Standard Oil Building, on St. Paul Street in good ole Baltimore (home base of CMR).
The Standard Oil Building served as the home office of the Western Maryland Ry from the 1920's until the early 1960's.

I guess you have sell off all that Pennsy junk now, and start modeling the WM!

Ok, I couldn't stand it anymore; I setup the door layout on top of the benchwork in the train room, figured out a little wiring problem, and ran three trains.

A Mopac 2-8-0 with two passenger coaches in tow, a Mopac GP15 with a stock car, a 50 foot and two 40 foot boxes, and a UP SD40 with a couple tankers and a three bay hopper.

I feel better now. I was able to run trains for a little bit!!!!

But you neglect to tell us what scale the trains were!  C'mon, Michael... there's a lot of money in the office pool about this!

GHQ cement truck painted to match Athearn's Edmier Mack. LOTS of tedious masking.
