He isn't shy on the prices but if you just gotta have it or else it is the place to go.  Or it would seem!

Paging Dr.V... an EL paint out coupled up with that PC SD35 would look right at home in Western PA.

It would indeed...  How DCC-friendly are these earlier SD45s?

BTW, my SD35 is on the damn fritz still...  I'm in denial that it's the decoder; that'd be number 2 for that engine.

Don't bet on it Dave, I've replaced one 3 times already, along with a C628.

I'm happy to see the SD45's and especially the F40PH. Now maybe some of the stagnant early amtrak stuff will move. The SD45 came a little late for me. I gave up and made my own a while back.

I don't feel so bad because they didn't offer the right road name this go around anyhow. I wouldn't have done this if I needed more than one though.

Tony, that's an awesome point...  There's been a HUGE flux of early Amtrak products from multiple manufacturers lately, but nothing decent with which to pull them...  until now.  Maybe Kato ain't so blind.  I picked up a Walther's 10-6 in Pointless Arrow on clearance at MBK and have since been trolling for an F40PH or Amtrak E8/9 with which to pull it.

Gotta admit this would look good:

Even a basic black (if its clean) ain't bad on the front of an early Amtrak train.

The original SD45's weren't friendly, but there are now decoders to replace the front and back light boards. Not plug and play, but easier.

I've got a ton of original SD45/40's, and they are reliable and will pull out tree stumps. It will be interesting to see what "style" mechanism Kato uses on these.

Preordered the DRGW's, so I can put the paint/decals away ;D

I doubt Kato changed the body tooling.  I would just take the EL shell from the original run and mount it on the new mechanism after patching out the EL graphics.

I have one that I haven't patched out yet that is ticketed to be paired with a CR blue sister unit.
