TLT Newsprint Cars: Some questions...

I notice in the TLT website

http://www.hobbycraft.com/tlt/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=70&Itemid=72

That the second run of the newsprint cars are coming - but in new roadnames? I thought the plan was to re-do the first run with corrections? Also no mention of any shell swap program.

I still like and need these cars, and frankly even the ones out now are basically acceptable to me - or could be fixed.

One question - these cars have strangely short wheelbases - and I just don't see it in prototype photos. Or am I missing something?

IIRC, CN, CV, and DW&P in the same basic scheme as the first run, but with yellow doors, and CP Rail green without the multimark. My intent with the ones I have is to bodymount the couplers and install BLMA 100T trucks (or 70T, though I'm pretty sure they ride on 100T). The BLMA's lower the cars without effort, and I suppose I could lower a bit more if I felt the need, but they look good just BLMAing them.

Mike:

The NSC newsprint cars represented by the TLT model are 70 ton cars so you want the 70 ton trucks.

My understanding is that the second run is subsequent to and different from the shell swap, and will include the same corrections as well as the alternate door where appropriate.  Not all of the second run names have been posted on the TLT site yet.

Anyone know who I need to contact for the shell swap?

Thanks!

Again though - is the wheelbase right on these cars?  I've played around with replacing the underframe with the Atlas FGE, which also helps lower the cars.

Lou,

They look right to me. The truck bolster center seems to be in the center of the second panel on the prototype and the model looks to be the same.
Here's a photo of a CV one I shot in Dover New Hampshire.

Daniel:

Reply from Darren at TLT - you need to contact them directly for the shell swap and they will notify you when they are ready.

Apparently the second run is not very far away.

Tim, I left Darren a voicemail but I'm afraid he won't get back to me in time. Do you have his e-mail?

I tried contacting him about 6 months ago but he never respended then either.

Could I use these on my 1985 era layout?
You`ll never find a Philly cheese steak on a menu in Philadelphia. It`s called a cheesesteak and we all know where it`s from...

Yup. The earliest service dates for these cars is 1964 and they built them into the 70's. They are still seen on almost every CN manifest freight over the system, and most of the newsprint they haul goes to the US.
