I was hoping NKP Car Co would make them but they seem to have dropped out of the N scale market completely.

"I was hoping NKP Car Co would make them but they seem to have dropped out of the N scale market completely."

As Charlie Vlk could tell you the NKP Car Co. of today bears little resemblance to the earlier incarnation, which had done both a decent assortment of C&O and NKP car sides.  The current company won't even consider doing anything "N" even though there likely is a swelling market that they would find if they bothered to look that would be interested in many of their offerings.

Even the so called revival of the C&O cars was never posted on their website but was done as much to try to justify themselves in regards to "N"... "Well we offered them and nobody bought them so why bother" sort of mentality.  It took several email attempts just to find out what car sides were available and he never wrote me back to tell me the price of the sides.

But there might be another source to consider.  M&R Models might do more in regards to mid-western and eastern lines if there was enough interest expressed.  And Roberto will also do custom runs for individuals, though they would have to bear the cost up front and wait roughly six months.  Honestly not sure if you have to do the development of the etchings yourself or if he would do it for you nor do I know how much more that would cost.

I would certainly be interested in some!  Since the fluting is somewhat unique, I think that etched sides are the way to go.

Probably from lack of sales? Which probably resulted from the fact that no one knew they had product to buy?

I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but I try to keep up on new product (not paint schemes) announcements to the point that I can tell the manager of the LHS what's new in N. If I have never heard of NKP I imagine a lot of others haven't either. A lot.

Hiding your product is a really strange marketing tactic. When are these Mom and Pop organizations going to understand that? That word-of-mouth marketing and POS at trade shows a few times a year don't make a marketing plan. At least not a successful one. Unless of course, your plan is to go out of business quickly...then that plan proves quite successful...
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

If you have a product you want to sell and you have a website its a "no brainer" to put it on the site so people would know about it.  As I mentioned, they weren't even willing to answer email inquiries about them, let alone post them on the site.  They didn't want N-scalers to know all that much about them otherwise they might actually have another market worth pursuing... what can I say, some manufacturers of horribly oversized models also have a horribly oversides attitude against N-scale, and NKP Car is not alone when it comes to passenger car sides.
