Nice of the Super to drop by.

No pics for me this weekend - something about the wife's camera being broken and needing mine to take pics of our kid . . .

I did manage to get the refinery backdrop photo laminated to some foamcore with spray adhesive - so now it sits at the back of Section 1 without dropping.  Need to seal it with dullcoat.  Also got nearly all of the basic land form installed - and nearly used up a second carton of Woodland Scenics Mold-A-Scene.  Should have enough to finish plastering tonight.  Then its off to mix paint, start ground foam, etc.

I demolished a little bit more in the basement, clearing out an old security system, removing all sorts of old low-voltage wires for it and rerunning some telephone lines so they don't interfere with any walls I may put up and putting them above where a drop ceiling header would be. I've got a few more to do and hopefully with this coming weekend's rain all the time I can at least start to get to building the walls,

Sounds like you just gave yourself some free feeder wires.

Nothing photo-worthy for trains. Went to the Maryland Classic Lax Tourney at the stadium. Picked up some of the woodchip cars that Athearn released, nice but still has the MDC tech and tooling (poor fitting weight floors). Also continued work on rebuilding some CMW MOW trucks (pics for SNFF this week). In 1:1 I completed the stencils for the Jeep and took her out for a spin on Sunday and removed the stupid vinyl lettering the previous owner applied. I can't wait to give her proper makeup as a 101st/506th service vehicle.

Copper is copper is copper.  Some stale donut crumbs and a little spilled cola won't hurt much.  It all washes off.

They call me 'cheap'.

All in various stages of completion:

stay cool and repetitive... 8) 8)

Ahh, the diesels of my youth.  Very nice - I especially like the trucks on the 1500.  But do you have to show us how much finer the HO details are over N?   >:(  ;)

Thanks for the gon writeup Pudd, that turned out really well.  It sounds like sanding the interior was a key step.

Made some progress on my next diesel project, an SD70MAC, but nothing photo-worthy.  Also took delivery of some new ExactRail gons from Chuck (very good paint work) and a Kato undec SD70M shell (flat radiators & standard cab) for another project.

With Spring arriving two weeks early, I made use of the outstanding weather and headed up to Allaire, armed with a homemade camera rig so I could photograph the track (the camera is at the very top end of the angled part of the rig). The rig holds my pocket camera aloft directly over and perpendicular to the track, and I shoot a frame every 4-5 feet.

Then I stitched the images together to make templates for tracklaying.

I used a measuring wheel to get accurate dimensions of the track, which allows me to precisely scale the images. For example, the above image is exactly three inches long when scaled for Z.

Cool, but I don't see where you are going with this. Can you explain why you are doing this?
Thanks

Tom, those look great!

Well Iain joined the dark side, and a few others may have given a cursory look into it.
Vincent

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Got some more of the roof done last night.

I painted it this morning.  Maybe more pictures for you, but only if you're good!

I read that, but it didn't compute. Why go through all that bother to get a template? I thought maybe he was going to use the photos as scenic base or something else very clever.

I like how the points of the second turnout start just after the frog of the first. Very custom.

Since I've had a few extra days off due to my employer's internal politics I've been stripping models as fast as I can. That AHM covered gondola and a Trix 40' gon seem to have paint made from god-knows-what, not even brake fluid works!

Anyway here's the rest of the stuff,

a butchered Bachmann dome to repaired and rebuilt into an SP 3/4 Dome as per the article in NSR a while back

a UK flat car that's had new wheels fitted and a MT coupler so that it can be the base for my camera car when it damn well arrives - it's been ages.

this little fella came on the above flat car, bit too nice to waste

a load of boxies to be Ponderosa Northern ones, and an out of focus Bachmann Hi Cube which will be done the only proto scheme for this car - UP (did the chassis with extended couplers ages ago). I have a couple of others, one of which will get a complete rebuild into an outside braced SP or SSW 40' hi-cube.

a Concor caboose which will become an SP C30 series, and that's had one truck moved to a more proto location. I might do the other tomorrow but I've been given some proof reading from work to do whilst I'm between assignments. :(
