50th Anniversary Party next week- March 7th

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of N gauge, the folks at the Atlas web forum are having a party.

I'd like to invite you.
http://forum.atlasrr.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=71

Some people (like me) hang out at multiple forums.
Some choose one forum over another.

But in light of the 50th Anniversary, we are hoping for an above average turnout.

We are celebrating anything old.

Anything new. Anything N. Just come and have a good time.

N Scale. N Gauge. We don't care what you want to call it--- we are hoping folks will just bring it!

And have fun!

If you can post photos...
it would be fun if more folks try to have a photo of something.

Maybe the oldest thing you own- whether 50 years (or pre-N gauge!) or 50 days old. Old to you is old!

Your first N item.

Any old photos of N stuff you want to share.

It's not a competition. It's a party! The more the merrier.

We'll be posting multiple threads on multiple topics.

Somebody bring the popcorn!

I know a few folks here really really don't like the Atlas board-- and I sure don't want to start any sniping with this thread.

But this is such a unique event. I just thought that that some people might want to know about it. Especially since I don't recall other boards discussing the 50th Anniversary of N gauge.

Next Sunday, March 7. Most of the day. Hope to see you there.

Best wishes. Ron Bearden

By the way, I can't remember--- but I think it was here on railwire that around the time we were having discussions on the Atlas board about when the 50th Anniversary was......

Randy Gufstafson posted a thread of mocking disgust of some ugly loco-- hilariously painted orange and blue-- selling on ebay.

We all clicked and laughed at it.

Well I bought it!

I hope to be showing it -- all renewed at the 50th party next week.

Thanks Randy!

That loco is as old as I am-  about 48 years old!

Well that'll be fun.  I'll have to dig around in the junk box to see if I still have any of those old dinosaurs.

Thanks for carrying the flag, Ron.

Mine's already put in the occasional appearance here at the Railwire:

(Somebody gave me a couple of these F-units a few years ago. I've never actually tried to run them, but they make decent photo props.)

I just turned 50 myself, and I'll never forget my first N scale set: Postage Stamp Trains, Christmas 1968.  Wish I still had it - the F unit was pretty d@^^n good for that era.

Party on.

Man, I don't have anything old... or anything I haven't posted before.

I remember the Orthodontist (dentist?) that one of my sisters went to for braces supplying me with replacement small rubber bands for the drive train on my Lone Star F Units and 0-8-0 UP switcher.     Nate Goodman (Nato).

I got my start when my Mother bought me an Aurora Postage Stamp set when I was 12...circa 1967.  N scale is all I've every had...never had HO or anything else.

The oldest I can go is some rolling stock I bought at the Four Seasons store at Ft. Rucker, Alabama while I was in flight school in 1978 ($1.70 each).  They've been updated to MT trucks and are still used on our layout today.

It was Xmas '67 or '68, the fancy layout from the Montgomery Ward's catalog. Styrofoam double loop, code 80 track, Bachmann set with loco, 3 cars and xformer in a fancy plastic box, trees, people and either 1 or 2 buildings. Had an overpass where the track looped but no bridge, just open space ;) Had it for years through high school.

So, it's March 7th--when does the anniversary party start? Is there a direct link to the thread(s) (instead of to just the Atlas N Forum in general)?
