Carter, you've done an absolutely brilliant job of alchemy, turning lead into gold.

Amazing work, proof that you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!

Thank you, but my discovering that you could actually make a decent looking model out of some of the old Bachmann vehicles was entirely by accident.  Many years ago I had relegated my Bachmann vehicles to the junk box, but one day while rummaging through it, I noticed a large chip of the thick factory paint had flaked off from one of the cars.  I proceeded to strip the rest of the paint away and found much to my surprise, a reasonably detailed car body.  I tried this with a few more of them, and once the factory paint was gone, all it took was a little sanding or filing to come up with something that looked like it might be usable.  (Well, the Corvette took a lot of sanding and filing.)

From there it was just a matter of finding suitable chassis donors (the first ones came from Wiking models that I felt were too European to use on the layout) and repainting.

Corvette
appears to be a Corvette/Opel GT hybrid.  Unfortunately my layout plans don't provide a any location distant enough to hide that 'Corvette' properly...

You ain't got a scrap yard or a mechanics garage?Normally where you find that manufacture anyway........ ;D

Did anyone happen to notice that the blue car in the bucket of Lee's Bachmann loader is the remains of an Opel GT?

The Boyd (Roskopf Miniatur Modelle) model that it appears Lee used was a good N scale vehicle for the early 1970s.

Yeah, this is BY FAR the most radical vehicle kitbash I've ever done, only because the Greyhound depot was right behind the Flagstaff depot, so I couldn't really avoid the scene.  Anyway, I'm a Scenicruiser fan, my high-school marching band actually had a secondhand one.  Ah, the memories.

Years ago I did a thread on this.   Made two, one for a friend, one for me.

Step one was to put a 1' wide piece of tape down the center of the body and saw both sides out and glue it back together.  And, the wheels are from Herpa trucks (Con-Cor).  Homemade decals from photos.

I've done a couple Bachmann repaints on the VW busses, and I've got a whole pile of crap bodies, and there's some REALLY nice work here!  Lee, that scrapyard/crusher scene is just fantastic.

I did a hirail truck out of the tow truck, and also consider that just a gem of a casting.  How they could put that in with the same assortment as some of the other stuff they did is beyond me.

Everything gets re-used though.  Those awful bus wheels re-emeerged on my Trackmobile.
