They want how much?!

I came across this pre-owned item for sale...

http://www.nscalesupply.com/pon/PreownedDetail.aspx?id=24880

... and I was immediately thrown back as to how much they want for it. Living in central Massachusetts, I am a P&W fan so the car interests me, but what is the reason for the high price?

I assume it's consigned and the owner is asking it?

(otherwise, I have no idea!)

Since the car has ribbed back wheels, it means it's an early release (labeled with "Kadee" instead of "Micro-Trains."

They seem to think it has a high collector's value.

The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I do believe that FVM or Athearn needs to step up to the plate and do these things at a reasonable price...

I've noticed that NSS (my usual go-to shop) pays attention to the collectibles guide(s) when first listing something in their pre-owned inventory. They'll cut the price after it's been there for X amount of time, and repeat the cycle if necessary. Your choice, I guess, is to wait for the markdown(s) but risk that some collector with more money than sense will buy it from under you, or pony-up the inflated nonsense price for something you want that's hard to find.

I'd buy that but thats way too expensive for something that may be ran again in another number.

Yeah, I was eyeing the pre-speed ones, but the price is a lil too steep for me.

Besides, I'm setting aside funds for WM 14 panel cars ...   :D

I've never ordered from them.  Wish they would redo their site.  You see what you want to order and then you have to write everything down and go to the check out and fill it in.  I'm lazy and prefer that you just click on the product to order and go about your business.

Used to frequent their store when they had a storefront. They had 3 or 4 tables full of marked down used stuff all with MT's for $5 to $8. since the storefront is gone their used stuff went through the roof. JMO and you know what they say about that............lol.

They can re-do the site, just as long as they keep the pictures!

The P&W car is indeed a very old release. MDC also produced this car. I think the color on the MDC car was a little closer to the orange color of the real P&W. These cars were gone off the real P&W by the early 1980's.

I used to keep an eye out for one of these MT P&W cars years ago, but they always went for over $100. Guess the economy is hitting the collector market too.

Still not worth it, I picked up the Atlas P&W boxcars instead.

If you wanna talk "cha - ching", you need to be watching eBay for the old Con-Cor Veranda turbine. Last one went for $250+, and there's one right now at $175 with three days left. The kicker is that it has to be UP paint with tender - foobies without tender haven't broken $100 yet.

So I'm really torn - I have a first-run UP+tender that I bought new with like no run time on it because it's arguably out of my era and I can't stand the clunky details. Then there's that slim chance that Athearn will port the HO versions to N. So... do I throw the dice and get rid of something I don't run at a hefty profit... which in the end might be irreplaceable?
