When those were announced, it seemed like a solution for one spot on my layout ...

Maybe I should look at handlaying that turnout. ::)

the curved turnouts were announced in 2008, the date has been moved more times then i have changed prototypes.

Apologies for taking it off topic, or my portion of the blame anyway. I guess I will fall back on the typical response.....Since I need them for my era layout, I thank Atlas and think they made JUST the perfect announcements this month.

BTW, Soo and I were talking, and it appears the first of these were built for the protos in the late 1970's so many of us should be interested. I figured them for a 1990's proto, but what do I know?  All I know is my pike didn't look much like 2005 using all the previously released covered hoppers as they were clearly too small.

And I can't wait for the new slumping, large tankers to arrive as that will complete my frieght car roster.  (Hah, fat chance!) :o

Yeah, the build dates are included in the announcement (earliest being 1976) - a couple years too late for me (luckily for my wallet and the blandness factor).

Wow, if one little box car can lead to three pages of discussion image what a real ground breaking announcement would lead too.

wow...three pages for a single plastics hopper.

Anyway, as I understand it we will have the curved turnouts before the end of February. That will make a lot of people happy.

As for conspicuity stripes, I love them.

What is the deal? No really "new" Atlas offerings.. What about some new loco's and not repainted reruns? How abot paying attention to the new competition and introducing "new" re-tooled rolling stock. It is time Atlas and Kato realize that the bar has been raised by Intermountain, and BLMA and FVM and others. I am willing to spent $$$, but not on twenty year old repainted rolling stock and engines. And not on Linz decoders when Tsunami and Paragon2 and others can not only power but also add sound.

Who knows, maybe Atlas has been in business to know that in the month after Xmas, sales go way down.

Or in a month when a zillion other exciting projects are announced, that its best to announce and produce a bit later, when other mfgs are slower with releases.

Or maybe, they keep records and whenever unemployment is over 10%, they know sales drop.

Or maybe all the Chinese factories are full with production for others

Etc, Etc. Etc.

My guess is that they know their business pretty well, much better than we do......Nah!

These hoppers are newish tooling and are as good as any hopper in N, so I'd say Atlas is still on their game.  I'm just bummed about the price increase.  (I like the stripes too.  :P)

Atlas has done alot of great things for N Scale over the years, they were an early believer in N's potential even if their on Site Forum is populated by other than A**hats and sometimes appears to cater to other scales. They have done much for me over the years in providing products especially Locomotives and cars we would not have had .Nate Goodman (Nato). "Hate those stripes, way outa my era!"

Atlas releases newly tooled products on a regular basis, with multiple new items introduced annually.  More often than not, they've been the leader on innovative change over the past three decades.  They are directly responsible for the evolution of Kato-standard motive power, the increased options for couplers, the introduction of prototype-specific wheel diameters, the introduction of DCC-equipped motive power, and the migration of manufacturers to more prototypical wheel flanges.  Any criticism directed at them not being proactive is invalid.

Whatev. No company's above reproach. If certain parts of the market feel the need to be vocal about their wants not being met by Atlas or anyone else, then let them. No one sells a product without a need, real or perceived. So if there is a need (like the ones being vocalized) that is devoid of product, then that equals an opportunity, for a manufacturer to sell product, and you can't be against that. Right? It's what keeps manufacturers in business, right? And as long as they're in business they know what's best, right?

Atlas isn't god, especially to the Katoists, so let's not start a jihad here.

This just in - "Reuters - A car bomb exploded at the Kato USA headquarters.  Radicalized Atlas militants have claimed responsibility.  Kato militants have vowed to respond in kind, 'This terrible deed will not go unpunished', Katoist leader Tojo stated."
