The Muskingum River was one of two Pullman Demonstrator cars built to this floor plan. The other was "American Milemaster". Milemaster was on display at the 1938-39 New York Worlds Fair, and its name was the winner of a naming contest at the fair. It was used in Pullman Pool Service,became a substutite car on when the City Of San Francisco was wrecked in August 1939 till car Knob Hill was repaired. It was sold to the SP after one of their Lark Obs cars was destroyed in a rear end collision. SP later rebult it with a blunt observation end. It was sold to EMD and became the Electro Motive Test Car used behind EMD demo locomotives. Muskingum River was constructed of all aluminum so was left natural color. It too was used in pool servuce, it ran on the winter season only Arizona Limited train which ran on Rock Island and SP. It too was sold to the SP after their other Lark Obs Car was also destroyed in a rear end collision. This car too later recieved a blunt end Lark cars were numbered 400 & 401. Milemaster became 400 2nd M River 401 2nd. Both train wrecks occurred in fog on Coast Line and this is why SP later had extra lights on the rear of SP tail cars also some UP cars used on SP COSF Train. Nate Goodman (Nato).
