Custom Curved Turnout

Dave: I'm glad to see the layout progressing! Looks like the addition of the curved TO added about 6" of space there.

Thanks, Rich!  It did add to the length of the siding, but the real benefit is the runaround track that is created.  When I started this layout, I only intended to use it for roundy-round running and for photography.  I didn't think that I would want to do much switching.   Boy, was I wrong.  As soon as I started running, the 0-5-0 was needed anytime I just wanted to get around a car or run in the opposite direction.  I thought I was looking at a serious realignment of track.  Anyhow, I came up with the idea one day that if I could get a curved turnout in there, I could reconnect the other end of a stub siding.  The results are this thread.  Thanks to Chris333, it has become a reality.  I love it.

It actually inspired me, when the time comes to build another layout, not to limit myself by planning with what turnouts are commercially available. 

i have always thought it would be neat to build a layout by first laying the main and passing sidings, and then cutting in industrial sidings as i placed on-line customers.

Looks great Chris & Dave.  That really does open up the ops potential and it's a fantastic demonstration of the power of Railwire for us far-flung N scalers.  (Thanks John -- and sorry about your Ravens...)

I know this is an old thread but that switch looks like it turned out perfect. Are there any updates on it's performance? Did Dave every try any hand laid track?

Since I got married a week-and-a-half ago, I haven't had time to work on the layout much (i.e., no attempts to handlay track), but the turnout has operated flawlessly for the last several months and still works great.  I still cannot believe Chris333's generosity that made this possible.
