So good in fact that I just ordered my KCS GEVO from Chulvis!  Nice job.  Now, how about some retro Belle GP-22 ECO's?

Wish I had a need for a GEVO (or a Hiawatha), but perhaps the next locomotive released by FVM will fit my roster. Anyone interested in an FVM SD40-2?  :)

What I think is cool, in our product rich environment these days, is that you can have locomtives like GEVOs and SD70ACEs released in N scale so soon after they hit the rails on the real thing.  If you're modeling uber modern you're loving it.  Now if we could only get an S-2, SW-1, yada yada, etc, etc . . . .

My knowledge of locomotive characteristics pretty much ends in the '80s.  I notice newer locomotive models are offered in AC and DC varieties, with the AC versions being used on coal drags and the DC variety being used on everything else.  Is this summation correct?  Why is AC better on heavy, bulk loads?

He captured the prototype extremely well...   It looks like a typical dull as dry toast wide cab toaster...  Beautifully rendered, but not my cup of tea.

May it sell well enough to entice him to do an Alco switcher!

AC traction is better suited for low speed, heavy trains that require continuous tractive effort (i.e., coal).  DC is better suited for intermodal and other trains that cruise at higher speeds.  From what I've heard, AC locomotives are more expensive due to the AC inverters and associated electronics.

The GEVO's look sawweeeet!

Cost is the biggest factor... figure a half million premium per unit for AC traction.  Current DC traction locomotives are no slouches either... heck, a Crap9 can go down to 2mph for hours and not burn out it's motors.

This is a nice model. I'll second (or is it third-ed) the SD40-2 in HO.

Stainless steel...

I'm not familiar with the etching process, but would would the advantage to stainless over brass be?

Regarding the AC vs. DC, how come there weren't very many AC models after the GP38AC? IIRC, there weren't anything between those and the SD60MACs.

To my knowledge GP38ACs did not have AC Traction Motors, it just had a different alternator.
if you can't conduct yourself, conduct freight
