This car is the first to wear the scheme.  Subsequent cars were painted in the scheme in the years following.

Hi Brian:

Very nice!  Is this the only correct prototype to receive the State of Maine paint?  In other words, are all those other N scale State of Maine cars incorrect?

Thanks,
Doug.

There were a number of BAR 50' newsprint service boxcars painted in the same red/white/blue scheme. Don't really know about other 40' boxcars, but as far as I know it was basically just on the insulated-heated cars.

I saw someplace yesterday in a book or the web a regular door box painted in the R/W/B scheme .

Wasn't there one that said PRODUCTS and one that said POTATOES .
Then there were BAR and MC reporting marks .

Are all 4 combinations applicable ?

Are all 4 going to be made ?

I don't see you on the Feather River Trains site , how can these be ordered ?

The XIH is the first prototype to wear the R/W/B scheme, debuting in 1950.  The scheme was developed for these cars specifically - based on Maine's official potato advertising campaign and because the cars were acquired specifically for potato transport.  After realizing the popularity of the scheme, the railroad later utilized it on a variety of equipment over the next two decades.

The only "State of Maine" variations scheduled for this model are those which were used on the real XIH.  While there were a few, it will not include renditions used on other BAR equipment.  There was not an XIH "State of Maine" variant that substituted "Potatoes" for "Products."

I don't know of any roads that employed the "State of Maine" schemes other than BAR and NH in the past, and MMA in the present.

There is a sizable amount of items coming in this series, many with various physical variations.   Look for multiple releases throughout 2010 prior to making way for the next ESM model in 2011.

I actually saw that car (it is one of a kind) in a consist on the West Shore Line (ex-NYC) in Bergen County NJ a few years ago, before it got tagged with the graffiti.

The winter issue of Classic Trains "Fallen Flags Remembered" is the B&A.  A color shot of car 2507 is included.

Bob, is that issue currently on sale?  I would like to see BAR 2507.  That would be one of the refurbished cars from the 1960s, most likely with the bold extended reporting marks.
