Shortline Boxcar Group Effort

I want start a scale-agnostic group that focuses on making modern shortline boxcars.  I think that we can share artwork and decals, suggest paint colors and graffiti approaches, offer helpful weathering and modeling techniques, and help each other with photography.

I'll start by posting a prototype photo of car, and documenting my progress along the way.  If you are interested, join in. :)

I do like the idea, I would like to contribute some pictures in the near future. As of now, nothing.

I'm in... would the groups focus go as far back as the "per-diem" cars of the 1970's?

Maybe Jeff will share his photos to get us started? :D  If not, I'll find something to get us started.  Ryan, as long as the cars are weathered with graf, 70's era would be fine.

Sounds like fun.  I'm in, unless there is a deadline and/or grades, then I'm out.

Since this is a "group effort" is someone going to teach the group how to make graf decals?  That has been high on my to-do-better list.

No, there is no deadline or grades.  Lesson learned from last time.

Yes, someone will tell you how to do the decals.  I hope we will have artwork posted, too.

be until next year sometime.

Well, go get yourself a Seico 50' car from Athearn, which is available in HO and N.  Z scales should pick up the 50' modern boxcar, which is not a match, but the closest available.

The white EEC lettering is available on the Micro Scale stencil sheet: Stencil Lettering for Patches & Leasers.  The lettering is in different sizes, so z scales could probably use the N sheet.

In a few days, we'll get started.  Anyone want to guess what colors to use?

Do you know the heritage of that car? I have a BAR car with a similar shade of paint, and was planning on fading it and patching over the BAR with MMA, but if EEC obtained those cars rather than MMA perhaps EEC would be a better choice?

Guys, just keep in mind one thing about that EEC car-the Genesis car has the dreadnaught
ends-the EEC has the more common non-terminating ends.

Guilford, One of the cars I'm working on is an NVR ex ROCK PS 5344, which as far as I know all have
been repainted into MMA at this point in time. The NVR ex Rock cars are good candidates.
