Midnightflyer, that slide fence is amazing! Absolutely incredible modeling, especially avoiding the "too perfect" trap for pole alignment.

What are you using to represent the wires? Spider web silk?  ;)

I shook my head real hard and the Nn3 bubble rose to the top.  ::)  So I started making a pair of Nn3 23Ton GE boxcabs. This is a mock up of the frame:

The bodies:

They will both be powered and wired together. Also if it works I will use an electric flywheel in them. Got the idea here:
/>
I later found out that only 11 20-23 ton GE boxcabs were built.

Dave has convinced me to drag this out:

First I pulled off the grab irons, then I hit it with filler, finally sanding.  I am going to add thin strip styrene to the sides to create side panels.  I will also add Archer Transfers rivets.  I am completely redoing the back end from scratch, with plenty of reference photos this time around.  Hopefully I can finally finish this beasty and make it look really nice.

Chris, that looks like a neat project. It doesn't seem like we're too far away from axle-mounted traction motors in N, with some of the stuff you guys are building. :)

Also if it works I will use an electric flywheel in them. Got the idea here:
/>
Could you share some of the details on how this works? I assume it's capacitor-based. I've been considering building something like that into my end-loop module, to make cutting power to a block a little less of a traumatic experience...

It is a capacitor 5.5V .047F :
http://homepage1.nifty.com/tfw/5012,5013/5012,5013e.html

I'm pretty sure for it to work you can not go past 5.5V. This will work for me because the gear ratio is so low (20:1) that I won't want to run it very fast. It should run just like this:
/>
I think if more than 5.5V is applied the cap would blow, yikes!

More than likey if I ever built something for this to run on, it would just be a small roundy round loop. I might even run it off of batteries.

Chris, you keep this up and I will start believing modeling operating versions of the WP's Broncos may be possible.

Finished up the west end of the staging yard today and ripped out the temporary reverse loop that the staging yard will replace.
Now to get it upstairs and install it.

Iain,

Thanks for posting....  Is it me, or is the side door crooked?

4 hobby shops in 2 days... Friday was HobbyTown for the usual disappointment, then to Iron Horse Hobbies in Reading PA, where I haven't been in over two years apparently...I was surprised to see the whole store remodeled...very nicely done. Then Yesterday I took the boy on a road trip to Manheim PA to Rule's Model Trains...Very nice store. My first time there, then swung through Lebanon to Draude's Derailment. Long story short, I picked up enough cork and flex to get started on the "Black Diamond Central"....

Golden spike was laid at 3 this afternoon on the main, and I just finished up the sidings. Many of the joiners are not soldered yet, and I still have to drop more feeders. Not too bad for a day and a half! I left a spot for the new Central Valley Bridge...

No reportable progress for me this week. I'm noodling around with the riverbank scenery on my bridge module, but everything's still highly experimental--and not glued down. :)

No photo's this week, but I finally got back into the WAR-ROOM and worked on some trains. First up is correcting 5 of the Rapido passenger cars. Found that anything less than a super elevated 17" radius they tend to get aggrevated and hop off the rails.... This lead to working on a new BYR blog after a two month hiatus (thanks work!). Third train related item, working on the lone bridge on the BYR. I'm converting the Walthers underpass from truss to concrete by adding plastruct. The last train related item was starting on a Laurel Valley GP-20...yes Lee I started it, but I'll need to get decals from you.
