It's that time again .. what are you working on ..

My helix is coming along .. it's under the stairs leading into the basement .. when done, it will be 4 turns .. I decided to use Code 80 for this, because the extra stiffness of the track (and I had a bunch left over)

It's about 40 inches in diameter on the short side, and I am using 18 3/4 on the track. The long side is about 60 inches .. The old helix was a 40 inch circle with code 55 .. I had some problems with clearances at the last ops session, so this rebuild will clear up some of those. There will also be access to some upper level staging once it gets done . I have 2 more turns to complete.

Took one of the new Bachmann 44 tonners and painted/lettered it for Milwaukee Road.  Some of the hood louvers aren't correct, but I can live with it until someone comes up with something better.

I'm puzzling over how to improve the traffic flow of the layout without making it look like merde.  

My druthers are to have return-loop staging, so I don't have to fiddle with trains once they go in...  simple in and out.  This would also facilitate roundy roundy running with the help of a couple of reverse circuits and automated turnouts.  But all those 30" blobs!  Eeep!



It looks pretty confused, but this might help explain it...



The blue blob is the Connellsville loop, the red is Elkins.  I'd prefer to have the Connellsville blob below the main level, but I'm having issues working out the grades where the three lines leave the main peninsula.


At this point, the CNL line would be on the truss bridge in the background, and the main line east toward Ridgely would be on the lower bridge in front.

I'm planning to extend the peninsula by 2', maybe a little more, to give me some more scenery areas to work with, and to provide some run length for the grades.

At the moment, I've got the yard cleared out, a bunch of rolling stock boxed up and put away, and I'm getting ready to move the yard section.  Once that's done, all the serious head scratching and chin rubbing will commence.

I spent the week working on building one of the 8 "A" series 36 seat dining cars of the Canadian Pacific...



I used the frame and ends from a Riverossi diner and cut the sides off two Riverossi coaches. I filled the various un needed windows with styrene and putty.

I managed to end up with a very close to prototypical model; albeit I reversed the roof in a few pictures...LOL

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Just little stuff for me this week (well, yes, most everything I do is "little"). Some of this has already been posted elsewhere.

Scratchbuilt a disused telephone pole.



Created a "mini-scene" of an "oops" moment.



Gave this dude a camera.



Made some progress bashing two kits into one larger business.

FP7 bashed from a Del Prado shell and a LifeLike F40PH chassis.  I did it just to prove to myself it could be done!  ;D

Lee did some decoder installs for me on a pair of LifeLike FA/B1s...  These guys are great haulers and sat in a box for 4 years after I went DCC.  Now they're back in action, hauling freight on the Juniata Division:





My wife is working on making a skirt for the layout, attached by Velcro.  Not only does it add a finished look, it will allow me to hide all the containers of scenery and model railroad supplies stacked against the one wall.



These are the new ESM G26 gons with Hay Brothers loads...  Both the gons and loads need to be weathered yet.
