Forgot to mention yesterday ... in addition to the heavyweight RPOs in GN and NYNH&H, MTL announced the first prototypical RBBB circus products.  Two pre-order sets for the Red train, coming in March and April.  The drawings are just artwork representations, so there is no way of know whose plastic is being utilized for everything.

993.01.140, RBBB Set - (1) 85' smoothside sleeper, (2) 85' smoothside baggages, all on six-wheel trucks; (1) 89' COFC with three containers; (2) 89' flats with full-length containers.  $230.

993.00.038, RBBB Runner Pack - (3) 85' smoothside sleepers on six-wheel trucks.  $85

A similar set is being offered in Z as well.  The newsletter says more detail will be posted on the website.

Interesting.  The NH car will fill right in with a PRR mail/express train.  Now is I can get my hands on somemore Kato mail cars from their Broadway set!

They're doing both heavyweights and smoothsides at the same time? Wow!

I have "heard" the smoothside cars are from Walthers...

But really and truly, this is really great news - I would definitely consider springing for this!

It's so hard to tell with the mis-scaled artwork for many MTL release posters... but if BB's 85' baggage car description is to be believed, then I think the only possibility is the ConCor smoothside baggage.  The Walther's car is 72'.

Skibbe, I agree - just going on what I was told, not what I saw...

The concor baggage car has skirts, which would be a bit of a problem....

I was going by the depicted drawing, which is merely a general representation of the set to show the artwork.  I doubt that MTL is manufacturing new smoothsides at this time (with the variety currently available), so it stands to reason that the cars are from one of the three manufacturers currently producing state-of-the-art lightweight equipment available on an individual basis.  The most reasonable conclusion is that the Walthers cars are being utilized, as they are the only of the three that currently offer what could pass for the two bodystyles, including the 72' baggage car.

What is the car in the top set, on the top row, right end? And is the flat in that same set MTL's 89-footer, or something else?

This is the double level rack car that the show uses for autos and small trucks (I think it is a glorified double deck auto rack).

My guess is they will use the MT open car as a base and modify it slightly.

Ok, then I change my mind.  The baggage cars on the release poster look to be larger scale than the true 85' - 89' cars, so I'm guessing the art dept took their usual liberties.  Looks similar to the Walther's HO artwork on the baggage cars, as the n-scale 72' baggage cars have only been released with three window doors.  6 wheel trucks made sense on an 85' baggage, but really strange on a 72' car, eh?

That's a former SP car, I think. MTL would be better off using their 89-footer TOFL car and just adding the rack as a 'load'.

In looking at the artwork the baggage car appears to be Con  Cor's smooth side car which has no side skirting, is a GN prototype, most of these cars were made from heavyweight pullmans and rode on six wheel trucks, not the streamlined ones Con Cor Used. Put modern six wheel trucks under them like on the Bachmann SF dome car and you would match some UP cars that had six wheel trucks, others this leingth did not. Sleepers appear to really be coaches, although RB converted some coaches to sleepers they also purchased some actual sleepers. I can't tell from the artwork if they would be KATO UP cars which RB did purchase, but they do not look like the Con Cor GN coach which does have skirts.                                Nate Goodman (Nato). Hummm these just may end up being the first "MT" cars I've purchased in 6 years. I'd like more of the flats with equipment containers though.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!
