I had to repost this from the A-forum - Jeff Marley's shot with an ex-N&W SD40 on the lead:

Here are a couple of shots from 1995 that  I took of the Escanaba and Lake Superior (http://www.elsrr.com/) in Crivitz, Wisconsin . The E&LS has used Baldwin diesels for many years and here we see a DS4-4-1000 (formerly Calumet and Hecla) and an RS12 (formerly Seaboard Air Line) switching the yard along with ex-Reserve Mining SW-8 (?). I believe that two RF16s Sharknose units are stilled stored at the shops in Well, MI. The last photo shows what I believe is an employee special behind GP-38 400 (ex-Conrail) and another RS-12. You gotta love that Great Northern look! This is the former Milwaukee Road line from Green Bay to Channing and Ontonogon, MI. Crivitz is the junction of the branch to Marinette, WI (http://www.elsrr.com/els_map.jpg).

Best wishes, Dave

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Fun stuff!

I have shots from last weekend but haven't had a chance to remove them from the camera. Maybe tonight?

I'm still finding some odds & ends in my old photos that I've recently scanned.

Back when I was about 13 (1979) I was invited along with my Mom, by some friends of hers
to ride a short line passenger train. We all were expecting something similar to the Hocking
Valley Scenic, but when we got there (which was somewhere east of Lisbon, Ohio) we found
one decrepit 0-4-0 tank engine that pulled a 4-wheel cart with benches. The old fellow that
was the engineer & owner of everything, ran them in a 1/2 mile or so loop around his property.
Well, it was better than nothing.

BTW, the young man in the photo is the nephew of my Mom's friend. He made my train knowledge
seem like nothing. Last I heard (4 years ago) he was an engineer on the Ohio Central RR-didn't
surprise me.

Dude, I just jizzed my pants.

I wonder if that RS12 with the GP is also former Seaboard.  If so, it could have been MUed to the GP.

Iain,

The E&LS has eight RS12s and they are all ex-SAL. The GN painted one is 1474 and is the only one that is currently operational.  I think that the DS4-4-1000 is also operational, but I haven't seen it in a couple of years (but I currently live about 2500 miles away). I usually try to take a look for these when I am in WI on vacation. That thing sounds like there are a bunch of guys inside the hood hammering for all they are worth.

Best wishes, Dave

I'm liking the older photos ;D

Here's some more from last march:

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

For those of you who like NW Units...
The lead unit was NW SD45 1771, followed by NW GP35(HH) 1304, and lastly NKP/NW 2910. To my knowledge the GP35s are currently stored, with the SD45 being harvested for parts.
