Jazz. It looks and sounds like they are doing some improv and they are swinging, too!
That tune is early R&B. It's interesting to trace R&B, and how that definition has changed over the decades.

I grew up listening to and loving the music of Glenn Miller but never thought of it as 'jazz'.  Just good "big band" music. I'll never forget attended a Glenn Miller Band performance in Las Vegas about 15/20 years ago. I was privileged to witness a jitterbug dancing performance by a bunch of 70/80 year olds that put anything dance related I'd ever seen to shame. I was in awe !!

 I also listened to Benny Goodman and Stan Kenton while growing up.  In fact one of my most prized possessions is Stan Kenton concert program which Mr. Kenton made sure was autographed by all his band members. I was just 11 years old and he couldn't believe what a kid my age was doing at one of his concerts.....and invited me back stage during the break. I also loved the Buddy Rich bands....and probably my all-time favorite, Don Ellis.  In my little world....good music is good music, regardless of what it's called.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Ok, so let's talk about the JD...

I just got back from a trip to western PA.

There's lot of hotness west of Cresson too.

I'd love to see something like Johnstown or Conpit on the next version.

I've been giving a lot of thought to the future of the layout, but the reality is that I very likely won't do anything major until the Midland is done.  I have some rolling stock and structure projects on the backlog for the JD, but no expansion plans yet.  That's not to say I haven't already expanded it in my head!

Ok, so let's talk about the JD...

I just got back from a trip to western PA.

There is a lot of hawtness out there.  But that's not where my Pennsy interest leads me.  TBH, of I strayed from the Middle Division, I'd head east into Lancaster County.  However, you know the challenges there.  Catenary, engine changes, much more open scenery...all very awesome but all much more difficult to pull off.

I also have the hots for the area around 30th Street in Philly, but that's not gonna happen until I retire for good and have the time for all that scratchbuilding and tracklaying.

All that four track "Broad" way nonsense...  My PRR fancies have always been the more rustic routes...  Delmarva Division, York-Hanover and Frederick, the Winchester Branch... that sort of thing.  Hand me down power (Atlantics held down the Delmarva Division until K-4s starting being re-assigned by dieselization on the main routes), and of course, you can't model those routes without tipping your hat to the occasional PC RS-11 up to its knees in weeds...

There were so many minor PRR branches... all so modelable!

True 'nuff...  The Pennsy New Holland branch would be a fun and obscure one, as would be the Lewisburg & Tyrone branch or the Montandon Secondary.

If circumstances ever forced me to abandon N scale for HO, I think that's exactly what I'd do.  A PRR branchline served by an H10 or two.

Back to the N scale JD, though, as much as I might be tempted to start over, I think I would more likely salvage most of the original 36" x 80" door.  For better or worse it's become recognizable, and although it isn't faithful to any prototype, it does sort of resemble the area I'm modeling.  What would be changed regardless is the track, and frankly I'm all over the map with regard to what I want to do track-wise.  I've thought through every option from Unitrack to Peco code 55 to Atlas code 55 with ME #6 switches.

Enola, OTOH, is about done...  I think what I'd like to do instead is some sort of visible run-through staging disguised as a real yard.  I'd like to extend the mainline run as well.  However, I'm finally going to admit that I'm not an operator and any future JD will be designed for maximum roundy-round.

Glad to see you've found some inspiration again, its nice to see fresh shots from the Juniata Div.

Excited to see how things will eventually evolve, I did quite like some aspects of the plans that were tossed around a few years ago.
