Atlas code 55 is damn near dead on for mainline Pennsy, no?
I checked tie spacing and its nearly spot on. Same with rail weight.

Yeah, I have 55 on hand along with a sh!t-ton of cork, so that's what I'll do.

But not this weekend!  Went skiing today and have Broncos tickets for tomorrow.

Some sort of major rennovation was just made all the more urgent.  Last night Philip H stopped by to visit and we discovered a new evil...a major vertical track deflection inside the tunnel.  Ironically, it's on a segment Unitrack that replaced a kinked section of flex in the first few months of the layout's existence.   :facepalm:

My hypothesis is that it's so dry in this part of Colorado (drier even than Nebraska) that benchwork shrinkage is to blame for the buckling.  Nearly all of my track joints are soldered (with the Unitrack joints unsoldered).  When the table shrank, the Unitrack sections in the tunnel had nowhere to go but up, being that they, too, are soldered where they meet the flex track in either end.

The westbound track is out of service until further notice.

No question.  It's dryer here than Arizona as well.  When I moved here the back of my bar cabinet shrunk at least 1/4" where the glass shelves wouldn't go back in.

While attaching feeders last week on my layout located here in Delaware, I had a yard track section several inches long that suddenly popped loose.  I had to pop the whole siding out to straighten the kink, which I attribute to the HCD, foam, and/or cork roadbed contracting more than the track.  My basement is humid in the summer months, but once I turn on the heat, I can turn off the dehumidifier until Spring.  This layout section is also on newest portion of the layout, so perhaps I didn't let the benchwork acclimate in the house long enough.

As much as I loved running the room-filling Western Maryland, I miss the ongoing maintenance the least!
